Classic beauty reigned supreme at the 2021 InStyle awards

Red lips, winged liner and sleek strands all ‘round

BEAUTYcrew Beauty Editor / November 17 2021

The InStyle Awards are a fashion lover's dream and year after year we have our social feeds on standby waiting for all the inspiring looks to strut down the carpet.

And while this year was no exception (hello? Elle Fanning wore a literal gold link chain as a top!), our eyes were also glued to the classic makeup and hair looks the celeb glam teams had whipped up for the evening.

The relaxed red lip trend was worn by several familiar faces, we saw the kind of winged eye magic that made us want to stock up on all the liquid eyeliner we can get our hands on, and the updos were out in full force.

These were our favourite stand-out looks and trends from the evening…

1/ Landa Condor

Any time Lana Condor and her full-time makeup artist Melissa Hernandez get together, the pair somehow manage to create the most flawless base makeup (using Condor’s fave Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation no doubt). But at the 2021 InStyle Awards last night all we could do was stare at the 24-year-old’s perfect winged eyeliner look and fluffy lashes.

2/ Elle Fanning, Phoebe Dynevor and Lucy Hale

The relaxed red lip was the main course of the evening with Elle Fanning, Phoebe Dynevor and Lucy Hale all pumping up their pouts with berry-hued lipsticks that were blended to perfection. Fanning went monochromatic with her makeup and matched her lippy to her blush, while Dynevor kept things simple and made her kisser the centre of attention, and Hale amped up the glam with an illuminated complexion and a bold bright poppy shade decorating her lips.

3/ Camila Mendes and Madison Bailey

As for the hair looks on the carpet, we saw a number of celebrities pull back their strands to show off their makeup. Camila Mendes displayed the full blinding glory of her cheekbone highlight with a slicked back style that smoothed down her baby hairs.

Madison Bailey, on the other hand, went for a dramatic reveal at the back, where  her mane was styled into a glorious ponytail hairstyle that danced on the glittery scarlet ruffles of her asymmetric dress. Iconic.

While we love a classic red carpet look, sometimes all we want is drama. This is 11 times Lady Gaga simultaneously refreshed our palettes and left us gagged.
