Julianne Hough’s trick for perfectly straight chevron nails

It's quick, it's easy, and you'll get a straight line every single time

Nail art is a big business these days. But who has the time to spend hours (yes, literally hours for some designs) creating a masterpiece on 10 tiny little nails every week? Sometimes you just need something cool but minimalist, which is exactly what Julianne Hough, with the help of nail artist Tracylee Percival, shared in a nail art how-to on her personal website juliannehough.com

Taking inspiration from the chevron print that's uber popular in interiors right now, the look is a two-tone arrow at the tip of the nails. Super simple, especially with Tracylee’s secret weapon… tape.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

To get the look, on clean nails (although you can add a base colour if you want) place a thin strip of tape on an angle to corner off one edge of the nail. Fill in one side of the tip with your first colour. Take off the tape and leave the polish to dry for a few minutes.

You can buy nail striping tape (yes, it's an actual product) or simply cut a thin strip of sticky tape to help you get a perfectly straight line.

Next, do the same for the other side of the fingernail, this time painting it with your second colour. You might find a fine tipped brush easier for this step than a small strip of tape. Up to you.

Seal it with a clear top coat and you’re done.
