Shay Mitchell shows off a new lob

And we don’t think this one’s a wig

Update: We can now add Shay Mitchell to the list of celebrities who haven't actually chopped off their hair, but have instead utilised the magic of a wig for a temporary hair change (Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, we're looking at you!). And given that Chris Appleton, the celebrity stylist behind Kim Kardashian's faux-lob, was the creator of Shay's textured 'cut', we should have at least been suspicious that it was the work of a wig.

Appleton told Glamor.com, "I gave Shay a new look, but it's all an illusion. We wanted to try a new shape and length without the commitment, so I braided away the underneath of Shay’s hair and used a half wig piece on the back. A wig or hair piece is a great way for anyone that wants to try a shorter look without chopping all your length off."

Illusion or not, we're still pretty inspired by the cut and style!

There’s no denying that the lob is the go-to haircut right now. Although Shay Mitchell has fooled us before with some very convincing blonde wigs, she’s always kept her long dark hair underneath. Following in the footsteps of Kim Kardashian, Anne Hathaway and Alexa Chung, the Pretty Little Liars star has joined the lob crew, changing up her signature length for a choppy ‘do just below her collarbone.

Hairstylist Chris Appleton, famous for styling celebrity manes and making hair piercings a thing, is the man behind Shay’s cut. After styling Shay’s braided and pierced topknot at the Teen Choice Awards, he posted the reveal photos on his Instagram.

Although we’ve been fooled by 'cuts' recently, with celebs like Kim and Kylie later revealing they were actually just wearing wigs, we have a feeling this one might be the real deal.

We’re loving this new hair length for Shay; there’s nothing like a snip to add freshness to your look. It’s also a very replicable style if you’re thinking of changing things up with your long hair. Luckily, there’s plenty of ways to wear medium-length hair so you won’t miss the length!
