When you think of blue eyeshadow, two things generally spring to mind: the 80s and the ghastly makeup looks you created on yourself when you were younger (normally accompanied by a fluorescent pink lipstick).

These days however, blue makeup, specifically in the form of eyeliner, has become a top celebrity makeup trend. Its more wearable and flattering than you may think! Take your cue from Joan Smalls, Lucy Hale and Olivia Munn to see three stunning ways to rock the brighter hue.

Joan Smalls

Over the weekend the model posted an image of an incredible red haute look created by celebrity makeup artist Porsche Fabulous. Similar to the results of a nude pencil eyeliner, a sky-blue shade on the lower lash line helps make eyes pop and appear brighter, effectively making you look wide awake. If you’re looking to recreate Joan’s look for yourself, Porsche Fabulous revealed she used Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Eye Pencil in Teal and Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick in Volatile.

Lucy Hale

The Pretty Little Liars actress went for serious drama with her makeup look, teaming a smudged electric blue liner with a metallic blue lip. While Lucy’s look isn’t the most wearable everyday look, it’s an edgy alternative to a classic smoky eye and dark lip combo.

Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn opted to subvert the traditional smoky eye by smudging a dark navy eye shadow underneath her lower lash line. The eye makeup look, created by celebrity makeup whiz, Patrick Ta was then teamed with a neutral and glowing base that enabled the eyes to be the feature of this beautiful look.
