Flamboyant and fabulous

Look, red lipsticks are great and all, but there’s no way around it: they’re total spotlight hogs.
In fact, we think it’s time that their cooler cousins (you guessed it, pink lippys) got up and made a Gretchen Wieners-style speech about how they’re just as cute as their crimson counterparts.
To paraphrase, people totally like pink lipstick just as much as they like red, and when did it become okay for one shade to be the boss of ‘em all?
After all, we're not talking about your quiet and soft pinky-nude lipsticks (although they're fab too), but rather the more show-stopping swipes of rose, bubblegum and cotton candy, that are just as commanding as crimson.
So, this spring (and summer, and so on; we see it being a long love affair) we’re making a triumphant return to the fuchsia-family favourites we’ve been neglecting for far too long – after all, nothing makes your features pop like a pink pout.
Still sitting on the fuchsia fence? That stance is bound to be short-lived once you get a glimpse at these stellar shades… here's our edit of the best pink lipsticks in the game.
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Infrarose
This is practically the lippy equivalent of a mullet – hear us out, okay? Offering a cheeky hot pink shade housed inside super chic packaging, it’s business in the front (AKA the luxe designer case) and party in the back (or rather, the bullet).
Tarte Sea Colour Splash Lipstick in Hibiscus
Does it hurt that this beautiful Barbie pink colour is housed in a gorgeous gold and aqua marble tube? Not one bit. But we promise it’s the crazily creamy lip-line smoothing formula we keep coming back for.
Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick in Polaroid Pink
Pink lippy doesn’t always have to sit within super bright territory, either – this mid-tone situation is surprisingly flattering on all skin tones (we can thank mother of makeup Pat McGrath for that), and the matte cream-meets-powder formula guarantees saturated pigment with every swipe.
Tom Ford Beauty Lip Colour Lipstick in Flamingo
A long-wearing lipstick with just the right amount of luminosity, it feels like velvet going on thanks to its gorgeously smooth Brazilian murumuru butter blend. As for the shade, it’s just as fabulously (and hell, flamboyantly) bright as the name would suggest.
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick in Pink In Devotion
Why not go glossy with your pink pout? Loaded with hydrating hyaluronic acid spheres and an addictive mango scent that’ll have you re-applying far more frequently than necessary, this is the ultimate shiny shade for anyone chasing a particularly comfy feel.
Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in Premiere
Not too bright but still nowhere near a neutral, this romantic rose is the ideal colour compromise if you want something a little snazzier than your go-to nude, but nothing outrageously OTT. Oh and did we mention it’s enriched with softening sea fennel?
Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick in Electric Poppy
Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Juicy Satin Lipstick in Tropic Tantrum
Okay, there are bright pink lipsticks and then there’s this. Your pout is bound to pop after a layer (yes, a single one – it’s packed with juicy pigment) of this unforgettable electric pink delight. The satin finish is just as striking as the shade, too.
Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Drama Matte Lipstick in Pink Exaltation
We’re calling it: this is the boldest, strongest and longest-lasting matte under the sun. In a true blessing, though, it’s actually wildly comfortable – you might even forget you’re wearing it; until everyone you come across asks for the details, that is.
