Think you can’t look years younger with makeup? You just need the advice that only legendary makeup artist Laura Mercier can provide! Here, she spills the steps you need to follow, and a common foundation mistake to avoid.

1

Moisturise really well

Spend a little extra time moisturising. “If my skin is feeling dry, I mix a bit of oil into my moisturiser,” says Mercier. Try The Body Shop Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Cream, which is infused with three precious seed oils.

Use a primer

Did you know Laura Mercier created the industry’s first primer in 1995? It locks in moisture and makes you look dewier for longer. Mercier adds: “I always massage primer into the skin the same way I do moisturiser.” We love Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance.

Don’t underestimate concealer

Choose a creamy solid concealer that’s slightly lighter than your skin. “Most women have dark circles at the inner corners of their eyes and redness on the outer,” says Mercier. Choose a peachy tint, such as Laura Mercier Secret Concealer to counteract shadows.

Don’t always cover up

“A lot of women only need a tinted moisturiser,” advises Mercier. It’s better to go darker than lighter as this will warm up your skin. Try Nude by Nature Sheer Glow BB Cream in Soft Sand.

Flawless foundation

A thin coat is best, explains Mercier, and for that you need a damp makeup sponge (try Napoleon Perdis Pro Makeup Blending Sponge). One of the most common mistakes is applying too much foundation in the centre of your face. It’ll look heavy and will settle into fine lines around your nose and mouth.
