Forget being waterproof (although, that is a serious feat!); the latest slew of base products aim to be budge-proof or even transfer-proof, so you can be assured that your foundation won’t slide off even on a super hot day. Psst… we’ve even made it super easy for you and found the best long-wearing base makeup product for each skin type.
Best for: combination skin
A foundation stick, such as MAC Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Stick, should be your go-to this season if your T-zone always ends up shiny by lunchtime. It’s a cinch to use, too: “Apply [this] straight onto the skin from the centre of the face working outwards, then use a MAC #133 Brush [to] blend it out [and] create a smooth even finish,” says MAC’s Senior Global Artist Carol Mackie. As for touching up, Mackie suggests the following: “Rehydrate the skin with a spritz of MAC Fix +, follow with the Studio Fix Foundation Stick tapped onto the face, and blend [it] out up with the same brush”. Easy.
Best for: oily skin
There are so many reasons that make COVERGIRL Outlast Active Foundation a real MVP this season: The base is sweat-proof, transfer-proof and humidity-proof (so you *know* it’ll stay put, no matter how hot it gets), and it won’t budge for 24 hours. The best bit? It’s under $20. Score.
Best for: dry skin
The Internet went into a meltdown when Fenty’s first foundation - the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation - hit shelves, and Rihanna’s latest launch, the Pro Filt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation, is proving just as popular with dry skin types. Compared to its predecessor, the formula is enriched with grape seed oil and sodium hyaluronate to keep moisture locked in, yet the finish is velvety, like your natural skin texture.
Best for: normal skin
Infused with mother of pearl and 24-karat gold, Guerlain Parure Gold 24H Wear Foundation is totally luxurious. But that’s not all there is to love about this base: 24-hours worth of coverage and hydration means your skin will look its best all day, and the sweat-proof and heat-resistant formula ensures your foundation won’t melt off, even if you’re spending the whole day outside.
Best for: hiding dark circles
A long-wearing concealer is the key to camouflaging dark circles. Hello, Maybelline New York SuperStay Under Eye Concealer - it’s waterproof and promises 24-hour wear, plus a natural finish.
Best for: prolonging the longevity of your foundation
You can’t go past a foundation primer, such as Dior Backstage Face & Body Primer, to keep your makeup look on lock. The reason why we keep reaching for this base is because of its silky texture, which has the ability to carefully blur imperfections and plump up skin with ease.
