Chloe Morello on Face Halo firsts, Reels talk and Youtube drama

Started at the crematorium now she's here

When Face Halo launched over three years ago, sustainability was barely on people’s radars, let alone within their beauty routine. But now, hundreds of thousands of women use the microfibre cleansing disc that replaces up to 500 traditional makeup wipes.

But that’s not the only reason people love it – it also works.

“When I tried Face Halo I knew I’d never use another makeup remover,” Youtuber, Chloe Morello, told BEAUTYcrew. “So I approached Lizzy and I just asked if I could come on board. Not just as an influencer but as a part of the company.”

“She’s very good at business, let me tell you,” says Face Halo founder, Lizzy Pike. “She’s a great asset and she’s integral in feedback in the beauty world.”

In fact, when it came to the brand’s latest launch, Face Halo X ($38 at facehalo.com.au), Morello was working alongside Pike from conception through to launch, testing nine prototypes along the way.

“We were driving in the car with our manufacturer and Chloe is going ‘wouldn’t it be nice if we had one that just slipped over the fingers like that?’ and our customers were starting to say ‘I love it so much but I’d also love something smaller for the delicate areas of the eye’,” Pike explains.

The precision makeup remover is made with the same genius HaloTech fibres as the OG, but the smaller design makes it ideal for targeting tinier areas, making touch-ups and smudge-fixes throughout the day a cinch.

“I would go through so many disposable Q-tips or cotton buds, balls and little wipes and stuff just on the one makeup look,” says Morello. “And so to have something like this, a single tool that I can keep at my makeup desk or in my handbag – it’s just really handy like that, rather than having to use something that’s disposable and bad for the environment.”

With 2.69 million subscribers on Youtube and 1.2 million followers on Instagram, Morello is often creating multiple makeup looks per day. And although she certainly has the fan base to launch her own brand, she’s bucked the trend in favour of a dynamic partnership with Pike instead.

“A lot of influencers are coming out with their own brands and stuff, and who knows what’s in the future for me, but I wanted to work with Face Halo because I recognise my role and what I can bring to the company,” she says.

Also unlike her fellow Youtubers with such high numbers, Morello manages to keep it professional and steer clear of the drama often associated with these channels.

“I feel like if you’re in drama, you insert yourself in it,” she tells BEAUTYcrew. “All I really care about is makeup and having fun, I’ve never really been the kind of person to talk super negative about anything really.”

As for fellow makeup moguls Morello’s a fan of, she names Nikki Wolff aka @nikki_makeup as a favourite, “her looks are so classy and she recently used Face Halo in her Stories for skin prep!”

And lastly, we got the scoop from Morello on Reels vs TikTok. “I like Reels”, she says. “I mean everything new on the Instagram app they push it, so I think creators are jumping on it because they get pushed through the algorithm.”

“But I don’t think TikTok is going anywhere, it’s got a very loyal following and so [Reels is] just another thing that we’ve had to add, but it’s fun. I don’t see it fully replacing TikTok.”
