Who knew this was a thing?!

Chrissy Teigen has done some wild things in her time, most of which she has graciously documented via her social media for all of us to enjoy.

But her latest revealing social media post has left us particularly intrigued, if not a little bit uneasy.

The model and TV personality shared a video of Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr Jason Diamond injecting her armpits with anti-wrinkle injections, with the caption: “BOTOXED MY ARMPITS. TRULY BEST MOVE I HAVE EVER MADE. I can wear silk again without soaking woohoo!”

We won’t lie – we had a few questions about the procedure, especially regarding its effects on the body’s natural sweating process. So, we asked Dr Phoebe Jones, Cosmetic Physician at Concept Cosmetic Medicine in Sydney, how the procedure *actually* works to stop you from sweating and whether or not it’s a good idea.

“Sweating is initiated upon the release of acetylcholine from sympathetic cholinergic nerves, followed by acetylcholine binding to muscarinic receptors on the sweat glands.”

And anti-wrinkle injections, Dr Jones says, “inhibits the release of the acetylcholine and therefore prevents its effect on the muscarinic receptors of the sweat glands, therefore decreasing sweat production in the area.”

Now, if you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering, where does all that sweat go?

Dr Jones explains, “because of the role of sweat in thermoregulation [heat regulation], patients may notice a general increase in sweating in other places”, but she assures, “it’s not usually a concern”.

Dr Jones did add that although there are “zero bad side effects”, the procedure “can be costly and doesn’t last forever. Usually six to nine months.”
