COVERGIRL just became the largest company to get certified cruelty-free

We want to cry happy tears

Guys, COVERGIRL just announced it’s now certified cruelty-free and we want to cry happy tears. That makes COVERGIRL the *largest* makeup brand to be ‘leaping bunny’ certified. Yay progression!

The Leaping Bunny certification is a pretty big deal. This means that all COVERGIRL products and ingredients are not tested on animals either by COVERGIRL or its suppliers.

In a statement, CEO of Coty (COVERGIRL’s parent company) Camillo Pane said, “Being cruelty-free and achieving the Leaping Bunny certification for COVERGIRL is the right thing to do, at the right time, in the right way. Listening to our consumers, we started this journey with COVERGIRL to demonstrate our commitment to this issue by achieving such an ambitious certification at scale. This is consistent with our ambition of growing responsibly by championing open, inclusive and sustainable beauty.”

As well as passing a “rigorous audit”, the brand will also undergo regular audits to make sure it is upholding cruelty-free production.

Ukonwa Ojo, Chief Marketing Officer of Consumer Beauty for Coty, said the certification marks a new milestone, “Consumers expect brands to be leaders for positive change so today COVERGIRL is taking a stand about making cruelty-free makeup a mainstream reality. We know we are not alone in wanting a beauty industry that is free from animal cruelty and, working with Cruelty Free International, invite others to join us in turning these conversations into action.”

Here's to hoping COVERGIRL’s certification sets a benchmark for other beauty brands out there. Seeing as it is one of the largest beauty brands getting around, if COVERGIRL can do it, then any brand can get on board!

Look out for the new COVERGIRL products featuring the bunny logo (they’re expected to hit shelves later this year). In the meantime, just know that all COVERGIRL products are already part of the initiative.

Good one, COVERGIRL!
