Don't look now but crimped hair is back

Don't look now but crimped hair is making a comeback

Every celeb is wearing your fave nostalgic noughties hair trend

Beauty Crew / April 10 2022

Back in the '00s, the easiest way to score maximum cool-girl points at the school disco was to leave your hair in tight plaits overnight and let them out the next morning to find gloriously-crimped hair. Glitzy butterfly clips were all that was needed to provide the finishing touches to the look. What a time!

Now, in news sure to excite your inner noughties child, crimped hair is finally making its comeback.

Almost a decade after the '80s trend was first adopted by the next generation, celebrities everywhere have been busy introducing the crimped look to the social media age - with a twist. Instead of tight zig-zag tresses, the celebrity set are living for looser crimps.

And, before you say: "But, that's a beach wave," let us elaborate... The 2020 crimp is much more considered than undone waves but a bit looser than the noughties' crimp. In other word, it's hair that pays homage to our childhoods whilst still earning Instagram points.

Check out the look on your favourite celebs below...

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner was one of the first A-listers to style her hair in a nod to the millennial crimp at Justin and Hailey Bieber's wedding in October 2019. As demonstrated by the supermodel, the look is best when crimping begins a good inch or two down from your parting - a trick Kim Kardashian later took into consideration.

Kim Kardashian

Just months after her younger sibling trialled the trend, Kim Kardashian showed off loose crimps on Instagram. Kardashian went for sleek crimped waves worn an inch or two from the roots (just like Jenner) and we couldn't be more on board with her glam new look.

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner is one of New York-based hair guru Christian Wood's top clients and together the two have experimented with everything from sleek hair ponytail to polished Hollywood waves. But it's Sophie's latest tousled look which has really caught our eye. We've already pinned this one to our Pinterest boards for future salon chair reference.

@joansmalls

Joan Smalls

Renowned hairstylist Kayla MiChele created Joan Smalls' iconic 2019 Met Gala hair look which featured a combination of cornrow braids, larger plaits and loosely crimped sections. Stunning.

@kyliejenner

Kylie Jenner

While holidaying with a professional photographer in tow (as you do), Kylie Jenner had herself snapped with her freshly done honey-tinged hair in crimpy waves. We can't help but wonder whether she achieved the look by sleeping in the Rapunzel-worthy plait she was wearing days before.

@gigihadid

Gigi Hadid

While taking to the runway for Off White, Gigi Hadid wore the brushed-out crimped waves of our absolute dreams. If you'd like to try Hadid's look, we recommend finishing with an anti-frizz serum to tame any flyaways.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried is yet another celeb to jump on board the crimped hair trend. To complete the look, she borrowed another key beauty trend from the noughties: matte nude lips. Gorgeous!

@khloekardashian

Khloé Kardashian

Taking her crimping cues from her sisters, Kardashian test-drove the trend in the form of a bright blonde mermaid mane. Crimped texture is fun no matter what, but waist-length locks really give it the space to shine.
