This drugstore foundation is now my go-to for winter

Normal to dry skin types, take note!

May 30 2022

As we officially enter winter here in Australia, the time has come for me to change up my beauty routine to help my skin out during the cooler weather.

Along with switching out some skin care bits, I also like to opt for a foundation that specially targets my normal to dry skin type – we’re talking formulations that hydrate and don’t cake.

That’s why when the new Revlon ColorStay 24 Hour Longwear Makeup ($36.95 at Chemist Warehouse) landed on my desk, I was immediately interested.

With two formulation types on the market, the Revlon ColorStay 24 Hour Longwear Makeup is available in Combination/Oily and Normal/Dry. The latter is the one I put to the test, however, you can read our Combination/Oily review here

So let’s see how the new addition to my makeup bag fared, shall we?

The product details

The Revlon ColorStay 24 Hour Longwear Makeup ($36.95 at Chemist Warehouse) for Normal/Dry skin types is ideal for adding extra moisture to the skin, while also providing the desired foundation coverage you’re looking for. It can be built up from medium to full coverage, and promises to last all day.

Ingredients wise, it’s the added hyaluronic acid that specifically targets those with normal to dry skin types – helping to boost skin’s moisture by +122%. The variant is available in 11 shades and comes in at a very affordable price of less than $40.

Revlon ColorStay24 Hour Longwear Makeup review

As someone with a normal to dry skin type, beauty products with added skin care benefits always grab my attention. If I can target dryness and flakiness at the same time as evening out skin tone and providing a perfect base for any makeup to come, now that’s a product I want to try.

So, upon reading that the foundation is formulated with hyaluronic acid, as well as SPF 20, two of my main boxes were ticked – hydration and sun protection.

The texture is almost serum-like, which is something I personally love in a foundation. I was really happy with my colour match (I have shade 180 Sand Beige) and the fluid blends easily and evenly across the skin, with one pump enough to cover my entire face. I did apply extra product to my cheek area where I have some redness and a few hormonal spots, and the foundation layered well.

I applied the foundation with my fingers to a prepped base of primer and added SPF (a step never to be missed). And the makeup I used following the foundation also blended really well on top and melted into my skin nicely, not disturbing the product underneath.

The foundation is described as having a ‘natural finish’ and as the liquid set on my skin, I found it did just that – my skin looked like skin, but with a more even wash of colour. Even though I am used to a more ‘dewy finish’ with my base products, this foundation left my skin looking and feeling like satin, and held up for my working day (Zoom meeting after Zoom meeting), which is what I like to see.

The final verdict

I think this drugstore foundation is a great option for those with normal to dry skin types, who are looking for something affordable and with added skin care benefits.

The natural, blendable texture makes applying quick and easy – ideal for those time-poor mornings before work. The finish leaves skin looking as it should, without any cakiness or settling into fine lines – and for those of us with drier skin types, you know the struggle is real.

As for its ability to ‘improve skin’s quality day after day’ the verdict is still out. However, with the added hyaluronic acid my hopes are high, and I know my skin will be better hydrated throughout winter.
