Elyse Knowles Shares Her Must-Have Beauty Products

She’s a beauty girl through and through

Beauty Crew Beauty Editor / December 19 2018

Elyse Knowles is no stranger to the spotlight. The Australian model has been modelling since she was just 10 years old, won the 13th season of The Block in 2017, is currently the ambassador for Myer and Seafolly, and even launched a book this year called ‘From Me To You’, which explores her upbringing, work ethics and approach to beauty.

As for her newest gig? It’s just been announced that she will take on a new ambassadorship for well-loved beauty brand, Aveda. In an exclusive chat with Beauty Crew, she shares more about her career, favourite beauty products and fitness routine.

On her career so far…
“I’ve been modelling for a very long time but over the last two years it has had a major change and I’ve ticked off some big dreams of mine. I feel super content, so happy, I love living here and I love being here with my family and doing what I’m doing. I have the dream job because I get to do something different every day and meet beautiful people that love what they do and I only work with brands that I believe in.

[A few years ago] I didn’t want to lose an opportunity because I wanted so badly to build my brand from such a young age and now I’ve done that I feel like now I can say ‘no, I need a rest!’; I need to go on a January holiday and just sign off for a while and live and breathe my environment and have fun. It took me a long time to get to that stage but I definitely bloody worked for that. I worked through every holiday – every holiday got destroyed, every family holiday we’d do a big road trip with our family and that was a big thing; we never went overseas as a family.”

On her approach to social media…
“I think being able to switch off and know when you need time out is essential, otherwise you’re pretty much addicted. There are people who wake up in the morning to check their Instagram. I’ve made a rule with myself that I’m not to check any of that until I get home from the gym and I’m sitting down and I’ve cooked my breakfast - that’s my time to debrief, to start work. When I go for walks with the dogs, I don’t check any of that. I have my music playing and it’s just a time to think and reflect and figure out what I’ve got to do today or this week.”

On her newest role as National Brand Ambassador of Aveda…
“Over the years I’ve become more aware of what I’m using and what effect it’s having on the environment. I think it’s popping into everyone’s minds at the moment and it’s very current. At Aveda, they’ve lived and breathed this from day dot. It was a really nice connection and alignment because they believe in everything I believe in – caring for the environment: their packaging is recyclable and sustainable, they think about the Earth.

I’ve used them for quite a few years now and I actually started using them through their Chakra sprays and I loved the scents that they had in those. Then I got introduced to their haircare and saw the effects of it. My blonde hair’s loving it and you can smell it as soon as you wash your hair, you know that you’ve washed your hair with Aveda.”

“It’s just really nice to be putting your name and promoting a brand that’s doing something right. I think we should all be taking this change and stance like Aveda has been doing forever.”

On her approach to beauty…
“I’m learning that it’s essential to do facials and to have a peel every now and then to get rid of dead skin. I’ve had really troubled skin in the past so it’s just making sure I can stay on top of it because I breakout really easily.”

On her favourite hair products…
“I love my Aveda Damage Remedy Restructuring Shampoo and Conditioner, it’s really great for my blonde hair. It keeps it healthy and shiny with lots of protein in there. I also use Shampure Shampoo because it’s really light.”

On her favourite skin care products…
“I use Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm to take my makeup off - it’s so beautiful, so soft. You don’t even have to use water, so it’s great to travel with. I also use Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, Clinique Dramatically Different™ Hydrating Jelly and La Mer The Cleansing Micellar Water.

On her fitness routine…
“I’d love to get back to a routine. It’s been pretty crazy at the moment. When I am in a routine I love doing weight classes. So, I do two upper body weight classes, and two lower body weight classes. Every day is different for me. I had a bikini shoot yesterday so I just tried to activate my core before doing it. I like to sweat, so I like to book a hotel that has a gym so I can ride a bike or do some weights. I was in Bondi the last couple of days and I went for a walk and I love just being outside. When you’re in a new environment, just go for a walk and explore. It starts off the day really nice.”
