The feather hair trend is set to fly in 2022

The retro haircut explained

BEAUTYcrew Beauty Editor / July 01 2022

In a strange turn of events, our favourite hair trends of the last few months have managed to converge, resulting in the birth of a retro-inspired hair trend that we’re genuinely happy about.

Introducing: The feather haircut trend; a lovely little mashup of the wolf cut, octopus haircut, and the ‘70s blowout respectively.

Matilda Djerf is at the helm of this trend and bravely pioneering a new path for a hairstyle we traditionally associate with Farrah Fawcett.

The modern version of feathered hair embraces the same light, fluid, full-bodied layers synonymous with Fawcett’s legendary locks, but there’s a lot less fluff and flick going on.

Margot Robbie’s interpretation of Barbie has even been seen sporting a lengthy version of the voluminous style. Actress Rowan Blanchard gave us cues on how to rock the romantic look on shorter hair too, with tighter waves and a face-framing fringe.

How to style feathered hair

Follow the lead of the folks over on TikTok and pick up the same tools Fawcett would have relied on for her signature blowout – velcro rollers…

Feathered hair is also the perfect transition haircut for growing out your fringe – just sayin’...

Briar Clark got her start in the media industry in 2017, as an intern for Marie Claire and InStyle. Since then, her keen interest in fashion and beauty has landed her gigs as a Digital Content Producer and Beauty Editor with titles like Girlfriend, Refinery29, BEAUTYcrew and beautyheaven. She loves the way seemingly innocuous topics like skin care and style have the ability to put a smile on people’s faces or make them think about themselves a little differently. A big believer in self love and experimentation, Briar has made a point of becoming the Australian beauty industry’s unofficial guinea pig for unusual treatments and daring hair trends. When she’s not testing out the latest beauty launches, Briar is big on broadening her horizons, mostly in the form of food but she’s also partial to travelling to new destinations both near and far (and of course, allocating an extra bag to bring their best beauty offerings home with her).
