Is the gold bar the new jade roller?

The lowdown on this odd-looking beauty tool

In the beauty sphere, odd products are a dime a dozen – in case you missed it, we now live in a world where you can purchase a washing machine for your beautyblender.

One of the more unusual products to crop up on the beauty scene lately is the gold bar - a vibrating instrument made out of 24k gold that you use to massage your face to encourage lymphatic drainage.

Unlike traditional facial massaging tools such as gua sha and jade rollers, the vibrations of the sculpting bar remove the need for manual labour and do most of the work for you. Plus, the sonic vibrations created by the device amplify the benefits you would experience when using other face massage tools. They’re essentially created for those of us who love beauty but also self-identify as lazy girls.

Made popular by Jillian Dempsey, the celebrity makeup artist and beauty mogul was actually first introduced to the ‘Japanese Gold Sculpting Bar’ product on a trip to Japan and fell so head over heels with its lifting and firming powers that she secured an exclusive U.S. distribution deal with the makers.

Dempsey’s celebrity clients instantly fell in love with the compact beauty device too, including her husband Patrick Dempsey - aka Grey’s Anatomy’s McDreamy - who demonstrated how to use the beauty tool in a rather entertaining little Instagram video.

Now, if you don’t want to drop a cool $300 on a beauty device, we hear you.

Dick Smith sells a dupe for less than $20.
