So simple, you could probably do it with your eyes closed

Although braids have become one of the hottest hairstyles to sport over the last few years, the truth is that most of the braided styles we covet are actually incredibly hard to copy – unless you’re a nimble-fingered braiding whizz.

Until we stepped backstage at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) and spotted the glorious rope braid created by Edwards & Co Head Stylist and MBFWA Hair Director, Byron Turnbull for the Anna Quan show.

Behold, the rope braid, a.k.a the easiest braid you will ever do.

We spoke to Turnbull to find out how to do this no-skills-required rope braid at home.

We’d recommend starting things off by securing your hair into a low ponytail, then get onto the rest.

“First use a setting lotion in dry hair [he used Kevin.Murphy Hair.Resort for this look] and separate your hair into two sections. Twist both sections clockwise [separately].”

“Once they are both completed, twist them anti-clockwise around each other – that stops them from moving - and secure at the bottom with an elastic.”

If you want to get a little fancy like they did at fashion week (and we highly recommend you do), add a little hair jewellery into the mix, like so:

Now if you do want to brush up on your braiding skills (practice does make perfect, after all), we do have a very handy braiding tutorial guide that’ll help you master them.
