As well as being the founder of her own hair care line, Ouai (pronounced “way”), Jen Atkin is the hairstylist behind the manes of Chrissy Teigen, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Jenna Dewan-Tatum. So, when she dishes out tips and tricks for achieving a voluminous head of hair, we always pay close attention.

In a recent interview with InStyle, Atkin shared her DIY recipe for adding seriously volume and hold to hair and we were baffled at how incredibly easy it is – all you need is sugar and water!

To create the volumising water for yourself, simply mix two teaspoons of sugar into approximately 415mL of water in a spray bottle, shake up the blend and mist onto your damp hair before blow-drying. According to Atkin, the mixture “makes hair look like cotton candy,” and once dried “it sets and has incredible hold. You can mold the shape with an iron or pull it up for a voluminous, textured updo.”

We can’t believe how easy Atkin’s trick sounds and can’t wait to try it out for ourselves. If you’ve followed her lead and are sporting a voluminous mane, follow our guides for perfecting a textured ponytail and mastering five different types of beach hair.
