Whilst it’s certainly not unusual for celebrities to wear wigs these days (Kylie Jenner, we’re looking at you) we were surprised to learn that Keira Knightley has been opting for a faux ‘do for her films for the last five years.

In a recent interview with InStyle, the Pirates Of The Caribbean actress revealed that due to the constant hair changes, cuts and colours she’s required to make for movies roles, her hair actually began to fall out.

Keira spoke candidly to the magazine about her hair loss battles and said “I have dyed my hair virtually every colour imaginable for different films” and “it got so bad that my hair literally began to fall out of my head! So for the past five years I’ve used wigs, which is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to my hair.”

As many women suffer from some sort of hair loss over the course of their lifetime for a variety of reasons, such as stress, hair damage, or after having a baby, we love how Keira has been so open about her experience.

And her move to wearing wigs in her roles holds an important lesson for all of us: the less stress you put on your hair, the healthier it would be, so it's not a bad idea to put down the heat styling tools or take a break from super-tight ponytails and buns every now and then. And it goes without saying that if you're colouring your hair, you shouldn't go too hard too fast (so no copying Kim Kardashian's platinum blonde style if you're a dark brunette), or colour too often.
