The genius hack to stop your undereye concealer from creasing

For a long-lasting and flawless finish all day long

For many of us, concealer is a must-have makeup product not just because of its ability to cover dark circles and blemishes but also because it covers a multitude of sins (big nights, early mornings and sleepless nights in between) in one swipe.

But when we apply our undereye concealer early in the day only to have it looking decidedly creased and cakey come mid-morning, it’s fair to say we’re less than impressed.

Thanks to an observant Reddit user, and makeup artist turned YouTube personality Jeffree Star, we now know how to fix this common concealer concern. In a Reddit thread, a user wrote that she had noticed a genius trick for locking in undereye concealer in Jeffree Star’s video titled $200 Foundation Review + Natural Makeup. She wrote “I watched Jeffree Star’s video and saw he used a damp Beautyblender with powder to set the under-eyes instead of a brush and now my under-eyes never crease.”

His concealer choice was the la prairie Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation however, for those of us on a smaller budget, the Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer + Treatment and L'Oréal Paris Lumi Magique Concealer are great alternatives.

In the video, after Star applies his undereye concealer he quickly dips a damp Beautyblender into a loose setting powder (he used Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder) and dabs the powder on top of his concealer before it dries. If you're looking for an alternative to the Laura Mercier powder, we recommend the Rimmel London Match Perfection Silky Loose Powder and the Nude by Nature Mineral Finishing Veil.

TOP TIP: We recommend shaking out some loose powder into the lid before touching it with the damp sponge to ensure you don’t make all your loose powder wet and clumpy.

Star says “If you’ve never tried this trick, you’re missing out, because the powder literally melts right into your skin.” Essentially, the trick is a form of baking, whereby makeup is left to sit on top of the skin before being blended in, creating a flawless and long-lasting finish.
If you’re looking to try the technique yourself, here’s a step-by-step beginners guide to baking.
