In an ideal world, we’d all have enough time to wash, dry and style our hair post-workout. Sadly, the reality is a little different, and most of us would opt to throw our sweaty hair into a topknot or ponytail.

And while these certainly aren’t bad options, we’ve seen a few red carpet styles that are not only quick and easy to copy after your sweat sesh, but they’re really pretty and totally appropriate for work, too.

So next time you’ve finished your exercise and have spritzed your favourite dry shampoo, try one of these post-workout hairtstyles.

The accessorised bun

Up the pretty factor of your messy bun by adding a dainty headband to your look, just like Blake Lively did on the Cannes red carpet.

The low plait

A quick and easy option when you want it to look like you’ve put a bit of effort into your low ponytail. Keep it simple with a classic plait technique, or copy this fishtail-braid-meets-plait that Lily Donaldson wore.

The voluminous ponytail

If you’ve exercised with your hair in a bun, you’ll actually have the perfect texture for this kind of ponytail. The sneaky plait

If you don’t have the time to go all out with an intricate braid, so Lucy Hale’s pretty side plait is a great way to up-style your messy low bun.

The high ponytail

A great option for those with long hair. Follow Irina Shayk’s lead and keep your hair smooth, but not too tightly pulled back, and wrap some of your hair around the base for a high pony with a difference.

The sleek knot

If there’s no saving your hair with dry shampoo, embrace it and comb your hair into a sleek, low knot like Bella Hadid, making sure to smooth down any fly-aways or bumps.

Top tip: Whether you’re going with a centre or side part, make sure the line is straight. Run a tailcomb from your hairline back, and separate at the part.

The high plait

A style that works for both medium and long hair, the high plait is a nice change from a regular high ponytail. To copy January Jones’ look, keep your plaiting very loose at the top, going tighter as you work your way down.
