How to get the coveted tousled look

Do you long for gorgeous waves that achieve the perfect balance between glamorous and sexy? It’s easier than you think, but each step is as important as the next so don’t cut corners! Sarah Potempa, inventor of the iconic hairstyling tool the Beachwaver Pro, which is used backstage at the Victoria’s Secret shows, shares her three top tips.

1

Start with hair that’s in good condition

You need a glossy foundation to really nail this hairstyle, so regularly treat your tresses to a repairing treatment like Kérastase Elixir Ultime to strengthen, hydrate and boost shine. You also need to start with freshly washed hair that has been prepped with a root lifter, such as John Frieda Luxurious Volume Root Booster Blow Dry Lotion, and a heat protectant like Matrix Style Link Heat Buffer Thermal Styling Spray before you curl.

2

Get your curling technique right

Divide hair into sections and start curling from the bottom of your hair, working up to the top. The secret to glamorous waves is that they should always curl away from the face. The Beachwaver rotates in both directions, so you can select the side you’re curling and start. For example, if you’re curling the left side of your head, select ‘L’, then press ‘go’ and curl.

The final brush-out is so important, too

After you’ve curled all of your hair, let the curls cool then spritz with a hairspray like Toni & Guy Flexible Hold Hairspray. Brush the curls out, then run your fingers through them to create the perfect Victoria’s Secret inspired wave.
