One of the biggest perks of the summer months is undoubtedly spending lazy days lounging at the beach (preferably on a sun bed, under an umbrella with a cocktail in hand!). The result of these lengthy days exposed to sun, surf and sand however, is textured lengths that often have a mind of their own.

While beach waves are a coveted hairstyle that many of us try to recreate on a daily basis, if you’re looking to skip a wash and want alternative ways to style your salty strands, check out our top three suggestions:

1

Tie it up

If you want your hair up and out of your face after a long day at the beach, opt for a chic topknot. To create the look, simply rake your hair back with your fingers and secure your strands into a ponytail at the top of your head. Then twist the tail of the ponytail into a bun and pin in place. The more texture on top, the better. So don’t try to make it too neat.

2

Amp up your ponytail

To make the most of the instant volume boost from the salt water, style your hair into a voluminous high-ponytail. To perfect the look, section your hair across the back of your head from one ear to the other. Next, tightly secure the top section of hair with a hair elastic before adding the bottom section to the top with another hair elastic. Then pull out random sections around your hairline with your fingers to enhance the volume and create a tousled look.

Braid away

Styling your hair into French braids will cover a multitude of sins. Whether your hair is a tad greasy after a day in the sun or just won’t cooperate, a braid is an easy way to keep your gritty hair off your face while still looking chic and pulled together. We’d suggest creating a centre part and braiding each side, working from the top of the head, down towards the ear before securing the ends into a bun at the nape of your neck. If you’re unsure how to French braid, check out our ultimate guide to braiding hair.
