Body oils are an excellent fix for dry skin because they soak deeper into the skin, are light in texture and rich in natural goodness. For your own custom creation that suits your skin's needs, it’s easy to make your own body oil at home. Choose and mix essential oils and carrier oils (most essential oils are too potent and powerful to use undiluted) for the perfect formula for you.

What you’ll need
250ml tinted glass or aluminium container with dropper
Funnel
200ml carrier oil (you can mix two)
1-2 essential oils (20-30 drops in total)

Here’s how to blend your own body oil:

1

Choose a carrier oil for your base

There’s an oil to match every skin concern. Almond oil moisturises and plumps without leaving any oily residue. Avocado oil soothes skin and helps relieve dry, irritated skin (try Oil Garden Aromatherapy Avocado Oil). Coconut oil has essential nutrients to tighten and firm, while jojoba is easily absorbed, softens skin and won’t clog pores. For a rich source of skin-repairing essential fatty acids, opt for rosehip oil.

You can buy oils from chemists and health food stores. If purchasing online, check reviews to be sure you’re using high-quality ingredients.

2

Find the perfect essential oil

For a body oil that’s relaxing and calming, choose from the soothing aroma of chamomile, frankincense, geranium, lavender, neroli or rose. Feel uplifted and energised with notes of eucalyptus, grapefruit, jasmine, lemon, mint, or rosemary. For a stress-busting scent, try L'Occitane Aromachologie Relaxing Essential Oil Blend.

3

Mix your oils together

To mix your custom body oil, use a funnel to pour your carrier oil into the container. Add essential oils, put on the lid and rotate the bottle to mix.
