Cold weather inspiration: Margot Robbie’s radiant red carpet look

Expert tips to get Margot’s bronzed skin, golden highlights and tousled waves

WHO Contributor / May 06 2016

Aussie actress Margot Robbie, who has just been named the new face of Calvin Klein Fragrance, is a beauty and style chameleon; she’s proven time and time again she can nail any beauty trend.

Just a few months ago, Robbie rocked up on the Oscars red carpet looking every inch the natural beauty she is with shimmering cheekbones, a dusty rose lip and beach-tousled waves. And it seems like the actress can't get enough of this low-key, radiant combo, showing off a similar hair and makeup look at the Met Gala.

While this look screams summer beachy vibes, it’s actually the perfect hair and makeup combo to embrace now that winter is creeping up on us.

The radiant finish will help illuminate your skin and counteract any dullness, and the lack of humidity in the air means you can trust your tousled waves will stay sleek and styled throughout the day or night.

With some expert tips for hair and makeup, here’s how you can recreate the radiant, effortless for yourself.

1

The makeup

“Robbie let her beauty and skin shine through. The hints of bronze and caramel shades on the lips and cheeks give her a modern, super-gorgeous look. You’ll need a curling black mascara, matte bronzer and a creamy lipstick in a dusty rose,” says makeup king Napoleon Perdis.

“Less is more. Foundation should look more minimal than mask-like. I recommend keeping your forehead makeup-free as it can sit in the fine lines and look ageing. Add a hint of colour in neutral shades to the lips and cheeks, and generously apply black mascara to the top and bottom lashes.”

The hair colour

“Margot has moved away from the ultra bleached-blonde look to a more fashion-forward, achievable colour – it’s a more illuminated, golden blonde with a warmer feel,” says Shari Reynolds, head colourist at Sydney’s Barney Martin hair salon.

“Ask for highlights, smudge and gloss to achieve this multi-tonal blonde.” Mane maintenance is strict: “No saltwater or chlorine as it’s too corrosive, and protect hair with a hat, as lots of sun exposure can bring out the yellow tones.”

The hairstyle

“The secret to Robbie’s casual waves? Don’t try to hard.” Use a tennis ball-size dollop of medium-hold foam and rake through your hair from roots to ends,” says session stylist Anthony Nadar from Sydney’s Raw salon. “Grab your tong and wrap just the mid-lengths around the barrel, leave the ends, then spritz with hairspray for extra hold.”
