Add an edge to your ponytail

From everyday to elegant with this accessorised finish

A ponytail is an easy option for long hairstyles, and if you style it properly, it can actually be a great go-to when you want to dress up your look.

Whether worn high on your head (as seen on Bella Hadid on the Cannes red carpet), on the side, or even with a little crimp, it's an easy style to dress up. Another option? Adding an accessory and embracing embellishment to give it an elegant edge.

Here's how to recreate this chic-yet-wearable style in a few simple steps.

1

Prep your hair

Comb a smoothing mousse or spray through damp lengths and blow-dry your hair until it is almost dry.

2

Blow-dry straight

Divide hair into sections and blow-dry with a flat brush to achieve a smooth finish.

3

Use an oil for extra smoothness

Smooth a hair oil to mid-lengths and ends. For those with unruly or thick hair, also use a straightening iron to control fly-aways

4

Secure your ponytail

Secure your ponytail at the nape of the neck with a clear, flat hair tie. “These sit flat on the hair while regular hair ties will protrude underneath your accessory,” explains Sam Overton, creative director at Unilever Haircare.

5

Add your embellishment

Wrap a piece of leather (you can find this at most haberdashery stores) around the elastic to the desired length before tying it off.
