3 ways to look after your hair this spring

How-To-Look-After-Your-Hair-In-Spring

Here’s how you can minimise the appearance of damaged hair

Spring is synonymous with change, whether that involves updating your beauty stash to include brighter lip colours or cleaning out your skin care wardrobe and making way for lighter formulas. As for your hair, you may be more likely to change up your style or colour, such as with updos that keep you feeling cool or lightening up your hair colour. Whatever the reason, we’ve got you sorted. L’Oréal Professionnel’s Guest Artist, Jordan Hone of Sloans, shares his intel on how to keep your hair looking its best.

If you have dry ends

Everyone is susceptible to dry ends, however during the warmer weather you can exacerbate the problem when you’re regularly throwing your hair up in a topknot to keep it away from your neck. Hone suggests the following: “I prefer to use an oil-based product as I find that it penetrates the cuticle of the hair better”. Hone likes Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil, but we also recommend Hair Rituel by Sisley Precious Hair Care Oil. “To avoid being heavy-handed, I would divide the hair into four evenly-sized sections (two sections at the front, and two sections at the back), and apply an almond-sized amount of product to each of the sections. Only apply the product to mid-lengths and ends to avoid overloading your hair with too much product. To finish, comb the four sections from your roots to evenly distribute the product.”

If you have fly-aways

Caused by humidity, static or damage, fly-aways are a pesky problem. However, the fix is relatively easy. “My favourite trick for calming down fly-aways is to spray a light to medium hold hairspray onto a small-toothed comb, then comb it directly onto the fly-away area,” explains Hone. “This is going to give the fly-aways enough hold and make them not stick up, but also maintain a relaxed vibe and style to the hair.” We also like Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.

If you have extensive damage

If you’re someone who has chosen to go lighter in hair colour this season ( we don’t blame you!), then extensive damage in the form of split ends and coarse ends may be an issue. One way to minimise the damaging effects of colouring your hair is with an in-salon treatment, such as L’Oréal Professionnel Smartbond. “Smartbond, particularly the Step 3 Conditioner, can protect the integrity and condition of the hair, especially if you’re beginning your journey of becoming a sun-kissed blonde!” says Hone. At home, focus on minimising damage during your heat-styling step. “Always remember to apply a thermal-protection cream, such as Kérastase Nectar Thermique, to towel-dried hair. This can speed up the blow-drying time (up to 40 per cent faster for fine to medium-textured hair) and protect and boost shine at the same time.” If you’re still wanting to style your hair, try swapping curls created with a curling tong with loose beachy waves. “A texturising spray like L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Wild Stylers Beach Waves gives you a really loose tousled texture,” says Hone... and it doesn’t require any heat styling.
