And he’s passing it on to all of us

Kevin Murphy is a mainstay in the hair industry, and with years of experience working with some of the most influential celebrities, the Australian hairstylist has managed to collect some very interesting hair tips from the most unlikely of sources.

In the latest episode of Get Lippy, Murphy divulged his ultimate hair tip: how to fake a facelift. Best of all, the interesting little titbit came from Barbra Streisand via Donna Karan. “I was doing Donna Karan’s hair and she was like, I’m going to show you a trick, I got this from Barbra Streisand so it’s very, very validated. So, I was like, if Barbra Streisand does that… then I’m doing it too,” shared Murphy.

“You take a little piece of hair,” he explained, “section it off – from the corner of the eyebrow – and go all the way to the back [of the head].” Pop that section of hair into a bun on the top of your head. This will give you the room you need for the magic to happen.

Then, take a half centimetre section of hair at the hairline and braid or twist backwards, pulling taut. “Find the bit that makes your eyebrow go up; braid those and put an elastic at the back and get a bobby pin,” explains Murphy. “Twist until you get the desired result and it’s an instant facelift.”

Secure the section tightly at the back of your head with a bobby pin or clip. Repeat the same process on the other side, making adjustments where needed to create a symmetrical look.

Take your hair out of the bun and lay the top layers of your hair over the twists, concealing all of your handiwork – et voila!

“If you’ve got a revenge date you’re going to, or say you’re going to your ex-husband’s new wedding and you want to look amazing – you’ll get a headache by the end of the day but you’ll look fantastic and you’re expressionless as well, which is even better.”

More of a visual learner? Not a problem! Carli and Bettina have created a handy informational video on the entire process, which you can view on the Get Lippy Facebook page.
