There’s no denying that makeup can work miracles, but great skin underneath certainly makes life easier. According to Naoko Scintu – makeup artist to celebs such as Lily James, Jodie Comer and Sophie Turner – skin care is “the most important element to a great makeup look”. Yep, not a dewy foundation or a full-coverage concealer. For this makeup artist, it’s all about your natural base.

In a recent interview with Glamour, Scintu revealed a few of the tricks and products she uses on her clients to nail that perfect red carpet glow she’s come to be known for, and there was a clear theme – hydration is EVERYTHING.

“At the moment I am using Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist,” she confessed, which is a toning face mist that contains apple pectin for long-lasting hydration. She also uses Omorovicza’s Illuminating Moisturiser and “Omoressence for super hydrated skin” (this essence has an amino acid-rich formula that improves the skin’s ability to retain moisture).

For a quick, no-fuss skin fix prior to a big event, Scintu swears by “Charlotte Tilbury's Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask. No mess, so easy to use,” she explains. The unique dry sheet mask is imprinted with a serum rich in vitamins, oils and butters for nourished, hydrated skin.

But, if you’ve got a bit of extra time, she recommends utilising LED light therapy to perfect the complexion (especially if you’re prone to rogue breakouts); “I have a portable one, the blue light seems to calm the skin,” she says. Followed by a face mask and a facial massage to encourage lymphatic drainage and a healthy glow, Scintu ends with “a stretch face mask for maximum hydration, and vigorous facial massage to really get the blood flowing”.

Now go and get your glow on.
