10 ways to organise your makeup once and for all
Get ready to feel super satisfied

Thanks to COVID-19, self-iso has got us doing a bunch of weird DIY things we never thought we’d see ourselves doing. Like colour-coding our skin care cabinet, sorting the entire pantry into ClickClack containers, folding every item of clothing as per Marie Kondo’s strict rules, and even alphabetising our bookshelf. What a time to be alive.
But if you’re anything like us, there’s one area that just seems a little *too* hard to deal with: your makeup. It’s everywhere, isn’t it? It’s overwhelming. But making your beauty products all cute and organised doesn’t have to be that hard. And trust us – having it all accessible and in one place is so liberating.
Once you chuck out all the products you don’t actually use/stuff that has been in there since high school (if you need to do a cull, check out our guide on how sort out your makeup stash), you just need to pick up some handy storage tools to keep everything in order.
Here are some makeup storage ideas to help you get started.
Etoile Collective Ultimate Vanity Glam Beauty Box
No matter how much of a beauty addict you are, this stylish acrylic makeup organiser has got you sorted. Etoile Collective Ultimate Vanity Glam Beauty Box has six drawers of varying heights (the bottom two drawers have removable dividers), meaning you can fit everything from your liquid foundation bottles and your compacts to eyeshadow palettes and highlighters. It’s massive (35cm in height, 31cm in length and 38cm in width, to be exact) - if you’ve got a lot of makeup to store, you can’t go wrong. Plus, it’ll look amazing on your dressing table.
Luvo Store ALEX 5 Drawer – 6 Display Tray
If you don’t have room for an acrylic box in your wardrobe or bathroom, clear out one of your drawers (come on, you can do it) and chuck in a display tray. This option from Luvo Store is perfect for your everyday essentials (like your foundation, eyeliner, concealers, lip gloss and whatnot). With six handy compartments, it makes it way easier to access your makeup, and it finally allows you to see everything. Simple and effective. This makeup organiser is specifically designed to fit IKEA ALEX drawers, but if you have a different drawer, just check the dimensions to see if it’ll fit.
Vanity Collections Pro Makeup Caddy
How epic is this little caddy from Vanity Collections?! It’s made up of 18 acrylic storage slots that have removable internal divider strips, meaning it’s a cinch to move things around and create your own layout to suit your personal storage needs. You can fit everything from makeup brushes and palettes, to lip products and nail polish.
Glamour Makeup Mirrors Lipstick Holder Rotating Lipwear Organiser
Obsessed with lipsticks? This one is for you! Glamour Makeup Mirrors Lipstick Holder Rotating Lipwear Organiser featuring a rotating lip wear organiser that hold up to 60 lipsticks or glosses – yep, impressive. It also features two storage compartments either side that are perfect for makeup brushes, brow pencil or palettes, along with eight drawers.
Beysis Personalised Transparent Makeup Case
If you don’t have a lot of space to play with, why not opt for a clear makeup case, like Beysis Personalised Transparent Makeup Case, and pop it in your wardrobe or one of your drawers. Use it for your everyday essentials and it’ll help you live that fumble-free life. Bonus: it’s so easy to clean!
The Makeup Box Shop Original Makeup Organizer
Made up of four drawers and a flip-top lid, The Makeup Box Shop Original Makeup Organizer lets you store taller items on top (you could even use it for your body lotion or skin care products). If your haul ends up growing, additional drawer dividers and trays can be added to this unit.
Etoile Collective Medium Cosmetic Travel Case
If you want to stay organised on the go and hate packing a million different little makeup bags to fit your haul, here’s your guy. He’s called Etoile Collective Medium Cosmetic Travel Case and he packs a real punch. Featuring one main compartment with customisable dividers, this case offers *so* much room to play with and can pretty much fit anything. The lid also includes a zip pocket and open mesh pocket, as well as a brush holder. The best part? It has a back band so it can slide right onto your suitcase handle, or you can use the shoulder strap if you prefer to keep your makeup goods close (we feel you).
IKEA Godmorgon Box
If you’re on a budget, the IKEA Godmorgon Box will do the job nicely. It features an array of small, medium and large compartments and is perfect for storing almost any part of your makeup collection. You can fit it into a deep drawer unit or have it sitting in your bathroom counter for easy access.
Target Plastic Cosmetic Organiser
Another goodie for those on a budget, Target Plastic Cosmetic Organiser will help you organise your vanity and hold everything in one place. The multi-level caddy comes in clear acrylic packaging like most of the others and features multiple compartments of all different sizes (including 12 makeup brush holders). You’ll never be on the hunt for your lipliner again.
Kmart Large Cosmetic Organiser
If you’re looking for something slightly smaller than the Target version, Kmart’s Cosmetic Organiser has room for eyeshadows, mascara, makeup brushes and more. At such a good price, you’ll be able to nab a couple and sit them side-by-side on your dresser. See? Makeup organisation is easy!
