Dannii Minogue’s sudden and dramatic hair colour change - from dark brown to blonde - was a hot topic at our office when it first happened, and now her latest hair colour change has sent our Beauty Crew into even more of a frenzy. Who knew that pink hair could look so good? We spoke with the L’Oréal Professionnel Australia ambassador at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2017 about her new hair colour, and how she maintains its vibrant hue.

On the hair colouring process of going pink…

“I’ve been wanting to go pink for a long time, so once I finally went blonde, it was only another step away. Then, I was bright pink. I’ve washed it a few times because I wanted it paler for tonight. It's just a colour that you can control. I think it should last about six to nine washes, depending on how long you leave it on for. It’s not permanent - I have the Logies coming up and I have a pink dress, so I can't have pink hair for that.”

On who was responsible for turning her hair pink…

“Danielle Solier: she is up for an award tonight and she is with the L’Oreal Professionnel crew.”

On whether she thinks she’s changed since having pink hair…

“I definitely know that you have to stand in front of your wardrobe and say no, no that doesn’t work for me. And you find things that you have not worn for ages and you go yes that looks great with it. So there has been a bit of a wardrobe transformation and I think you have to be ready for it. Like blonde, I think you get more attention and then when I walked through the airport this morning, it was bright pink like Barbie pink and there is no hiding anywhere, and everyone is looking at you. You have to be ready for it and I think [it] definitely [grabs] more attention.”

On how she styles it…

“I spend a little bit more time in front of the mirror and style it, or I even wash it and let it set and wait before I go to sleep. I have the school run in the morning and I don’t have the time on my hands, so I just have to take it out and go.”

On how she looks after her pink hair…

“You have to maintain it with special products. So I’ve got purple shampoo and then I alternate between a purple conditioner and a Smart Bond Conditioner. The Smart Bond Conditioner will react with that treatment that they put in to keep it nice and soft. You can feel that, it has had so much bleaching and [still] feels like my hair. And it has tons of hairspray in it as well. It is soft.”

On how she wears her makeup differently…

“I think that with the pink hair, I feel more adventurous with makeup. It really pushes you out there so you kind of have to live up to that.”
