Getting glamed up is all in a days work for former Victorias Secret supermodel, Doutzen Kroes. But when shes off-duty she prefers a more low-key makeup approach. Here she spills the secrets behind her makeup routine and her favourite beauty icons.

Skin essentials

“I use moisturiser and sunscreen every day – even in winter – drink a lot of water and I love visiting facialists. There’s nothing better than having your face pampered with a massage, creams and masks.”

Smoky eye or bold lip?

“I’m pretty good at doing my makeup, but rarely wear it unless I’m working. If I do, I prefer a smoky eye over bold lips, for sure.”

Hair habits

“I don’t wash my hair every day so the natural oils stay in, and I use masks and other treatments. I love a simple, pulled-back ponytail in my day-to-day life. For the red carpet, I glam it up with a nod to Hollywood glamour – Grace Kelly, Rita Hayworth, and Katharine Hepburn are my favourite style icons.”

Red carpet ready

“Most of the time I work with the same glam team who are also friends, so for a big event I have them over and we’ll play some great music and have some wine. It’s a little pre-party before the party.”

Off-duty beauty

“It’s a ponytail, moisturiser and lip balm, and maybe mascara. Regular manicures and pedicures are a nice treat. I usually go natural or clear, but I love a vibrant red or dark violet.”

Long-lasting scents

“What I love about Calvin Klein Reveal is that it has a softness, but is not overly feminine or girlie. It has a strong yet sensual trace. I dab a little of the perfume behind my ears and onto my wrist, and then dribble a touch on my neck and collarbone.”

Mood music

“I love music, so my playlist is eclectic. I have playlists for cooking dinner, working out, a quiet night in, or music to get my mood up before attending an event. A few of my favourite artists are Nina Simone, Beyoncé, early Madonna, The Supremes and Chic.”
