Hands down, Adele wears winged eyeliner like no other. So who better to talk us through how to get her signature look than makeup artist Michael Ashton, who has created the singer’s eye makeup look for the past nine years? Here’s how he creates her winged eye exactly.

1

Apply your eyeshadow

Begin with eyeshadow over the lid – a flattering golden hue is a fave of Adele’s. We like Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Bold Gold.

2

Draw a thin line with gel eyeliner

Next, apply black gel eyeliner in a thin coat using a fine-pointed liner brush. Try Designer Brands Creme Gel Eyeliner – it comes with a built-in brush. Starting from the inner corner, work the gel right into the roots and gradually build the thickness on the outer three-quarters only.

Layer with liquid liner

Paint over the gel with a long-lasting liquid liner like Rimmel London ScandalEyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner, and create a wing by flicking it out towards the temple.

4

Finesse your line

Use a clean makeup brush or cotton bud to sweep the end of the wing upwards at a clean 45-degree angle. We love the short bristles of Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush, which allows for easy control.

Now that you've mastered the technique, add a colourful twist and try Cara Delevingne's blue winged eyeliner.
