The steps to perfecting a long-lasting daytime eye look

Advertorial: Beauty YouTuber and Instagrammer Karima McKimmie shows us how

We’ve watched our fair share of makeup videos on YouTube. In fact, we’ve been known to lose hours at a time watching beauty vloggers as they show us how to master our makeup skills and replicate stunning looks. But the problem is, sometimes it doesn’t matter how good you get at perfecting the technique, there’s a good chance your look simply won’t stay in place all day long if you’re not using the right products.

If you’ve ever had this problem, they you’ll be pleased to know the secret to creating the perfect eye makeup look that won’t budge is surprisingly simple. Hint: this one product makes a huge difference!

And what exactly is that product we hear you ask? An eyeshadow primer. Yes, there are primers that are specifically formulated for your delicate eye area. Not only will an eyeshadow primer stop your shadow of choice (be it cream or powder) from creasing, it will hold your shadow in place throughout the day.

To find out exactly how they work and when to use them in your makeup routine, we teamed up with Revlon and makeup YouTuber and Instagrammer Karima McKimmie to walk you through the steps with this simple yet stunning daytime eye makeup look.

1

Apply a primer

If you already love a face primer for prepping your base and keeping your foundation in place all day long, then we don’t need to convince you of the benefits of an eyeshadow primer because it works in the same way. But if you’re using Revlon’s ColorStay™ Eye Shadow Primer, you’ll also love how the pigment of your eyeshadow is enhanced further when layered over the top, and how it stays just as vibrant by the end of the day as it did when you first applied it.

To apply, simply use your finger to smooth a small amount of primer across your entire eyelid.

2

Blend your eyeshadow

Using your finger again, pat a medium-toned eyeshadow (think a taupe or light brown shade a few shades darker than your skin tone) all over your eyelid. When picking an eyeshadow for the job, opt for one with a long-lasting, budge-proof formula so you don’t have to give it a second thought once applied.

3

Add some shimmer

The secret to making yourself look wide awake when your eyes appear anything but is to add a touch of strategic shimmer.

With a different finger (we suggest using your pinky finger as it’s the smallest), dab a tiny amount of a cream-coloured shimmery eyeshadow onto the inner corners of your eyes.

Finish with mascara

Pull the final look together by applying a few coats of mascara, making sure to coat each lash from root to tip.
