4 ways to get your hair summer ready

Summer hair tips

The products and treatments that’ll take your hair up to a solid 10

Beauty Crew Editor / October 27 2017

Summer is nigh, and there’s no better time than now to take a long, hard look at what winter and autumn have done to our hair (thanks wind, cheers icy coldness – we do not appreciate how dull and dry our hair has become) and take the necessary steps to refresh and revive those locks.

1

Overhaul your colour

A change in the season is the perfect excuse to give your hair colour a bit of a makeover – and if you pick the right in-salon service, you can ensure that you maintain the health and integrity of your hair and scalp at the same time.

L’Oréal Professionnel INOA is a hair colouring service that’s odourless and ammonia free (instead it uses ODS-2 technology to provide long-lasting colour), and won’t irritate your scalp (an absolute win if you’ve come out of the cooler months with a dry or flaky scalp).

INOA also protects your hair’s health – even after multiple colouring appointments – and leaves hair nourished, hydrated and glossy. Pair that with the fact that it can add luminous, multidimensional and vibrant colour to your hair, including up to 100 per cent grey coverage, and you can consider your summer hair colour sorted.

Our pick for an INOA hair colour service? The Color Correction #MyFlashLuminizer. Designed to add luminosity and shine to your hair with tactically-placed colour, the professional service will make your hair sparkle in the sunlight – think of it as highlighter for your hair!

2

Incorporate UV protection into your hair care routine

UV protection shouldn’t just be for your skin. Exposure to the sun’s rays can not only damage your hair, it can also compromise the colour.

Now that the weather is getting warmer and you’re likely to be spending more time outdoors, it’s a good idea to give your hair some extra UV protection. Simply apply shu uemura art of hair essence absolue to towel-dried hair, and consider your hair protected.

3

Ensure you apply weekly masks

While the cool temperatures of winter can dry out your hair, the heat that comes with spring doesn’t do you any favours, either. Pair that with the increased likeliness of a salt water or chlorine swim on hot days and your hair is going to start feeling the effects and end up looking a little dry and coarse.

Counteract the damage caused by the weather and your summer activities by dedicating one night a week to applying a nourishing hair mask. We like Pureology Hydrate Superfood Treatment.

4

Swap your products for frizz-fighting formulas

While we all love the feeling of warm sunshine on a summer’s day, there’s no doubt we all raise an angry metaphorical fist to the universe for what the increase in humidity does to our hair. Instead of fighting to control the fuzziness that’s already occurred, get on the front foot by swapping out your current hair care products for ones that have been formulated to tackle frizz and maintain that sleek finish, like the Redken Frizz Dismiss range.
