3 ways to hide dark circles

Tired of looking tired? We’ve got you covered

There are some things you know to expect when it comes to your age and your skin. Your teenage years will probably be filled with breakouts or acne; in your mid-to-late twenties you may see some lines forming around your mouth and eyes, and then as you get older and your skin changes, you are likely to become familiar with wrinkles, pigmentation and a loss of firmness.

What don’t tend to discriminate when it comes to your age, however, are dark circles. Thanks to factors like genetics, lifestyle and even your diet, dark circles know no age bracket.

And here’s an interesting fact: the skin around your eyes is thinner than the skin on the rest of your face, which is why dark circles tend to be so prominent. It’s also why the eye area tends to be the first place to show signs of ageing.

So it pays to know how to treat them, and how to expertly hide them. Here are three ways to ditch those dark circles.

1

Treat the skin around your eyes

If left untreated, as you age the skin around your eyes gets thinner, making any predisposition to dark circles make them appear even darker. Your mission? To ensure that delicate skin is hydrated, healthy and absorbing as many nourishing ingredients as possible to even the skin tone and brighten the area, as well as maintain skin thickness.

Try adding Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Eye Serum into your daily skin care routine. Besides the fact that they’re packed with ingredients to help minimise the appearance of lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet, they can also help target puffiness –which will all contribute to an eye area that looks younger and healthier.

But here’s where it gets really good when it comes to improving dark circles: found in the tiny (but potent) capsules is sea fennel extract, which helps promote skin luminosity and smoothness, as well as hops extract, an ingredient that will work to increase the brightness and radiance of the eye area. On top of that, vitamin A in the eye serum will work to support the skin’s own natural collagen production, which can help counteract any skin thinning as you age.

2

Start massaging your eyes

Here’s a quick trick to try when applying your Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Eye Serum: use a massaging technique. A quick eye massage can stimulate blood flow and encourage lymphatic drainage, which can help flush out the toxins that can exacerbate dark circles.

Start by twisting the capsules twice and squeezing the serum onto your ring fingertip. Then, gently pat the serum around the eye, starting at the outer corner of the eye and moving inward to the nose, upward to the brow bone, and back to the outer edge of the eye.

Repeat this movement a few times, applying only a little pressure as you go around. While taking the time to do it as you apply your eye serum is great, feel free to also do it a few times a day – especially when you need a short break from work!

Learn to conceal

While there are certainly things you can do to reduce the appearance of dark circles or prevent them from looking darker, sadly there is no way to eliminate them completely. And that’s when some clever colour correcting and concealing comes into play.

Once you’ve applied your foundation, use your ring finger to gentle dab a peach-coloured concealer under your eyes (we like Pixi Correction Concentrate), pressing the colour in until completely blended. The peach tone will help counteract the blue or purple tones in your dark circles.

Once blended in, using an illuminating concealer like BECCA Aqua Luminous Perfecting Concealer, over the top to finish concealing and brightening the area.
