There’s a good chance that mascara was one of the very first beauty products you ever owned. So it’s fair to expect that by now you would be a complete pro at applying your mascara. And yet, some days you just can’t seem to get that full-lash effect that you’re after.

Often we blame it on the mascara itself. But no matter how many different mascaras we try, the quest for the fullest flutter of lashes just seems never-ending. So maybe it’s not the formula that’s to blame?

When Dakota Johnson was recently interviewed by Glamour and was asked to spill her beauty secrets, it was a simple piece of advice she learned from her movie star grandma, Tippi Hedren, that made us rethink our approach to creating epic lashes.

Turns out it’s not so much about the mascara you use, but your technique. And all you need to get it right is a hand-held mirror.

"She was watching me put my mascara on once and told me that if you hold the mirror down low and put the mascara on while looking downward, you will get the most coverage from the base of the lashes to the tips. And, of course, she’s right!" said Dakota.

We love it when the answer is staring us in the face!

Perhaps it’s time to bust out all those mascaras you thought weren’t good enough and give them another crack. We have a good feeling that this little tip will change everything.
