Looks like we really had a thing for vitamin C

It's no secret that skin care crushed the beauty game in 2020.
Dewy foundation, we love you. Bold eyeshadow palettes, you're irresistible. But without the lure of a fancy dinner out or a (real-life) house party, you were kinda shelved in favour of sheet masks and jade rolling on the couch.
But it wasn't just the pamper products getting time in the limelight. With nowhere to be or go we also got pretty ballsy trying out new skin care tech and ingredients.
Don't believe us? Just check out the top-selling skin care products from MECCA in the last year below.
From potent vitamin C serums to LED devices, here's what Australians deemed worth their dollars.
10. Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Cleanser
Why it's loved: If you haven't tried any Kate Somerville products yet, you can hardly go wrong. As one of Hollywood's best facialists (who happened to experience serious bouts of eczema herself as a teen), she sure knows her skin sh*t. Using the power of fruit enzymes – papaya, pineapple and pumpkin – her award-winning cleanser exfoliates without drying out the skin.
9. Nuface Trinity Mini
Why it's loved: This mini yet mighty microcurrent device is the answer to at-home anti-ageing treatments, tightening and defining facial contours in a snappy five-minute sesh per day. With no trip to the salon needed, it's no wonder it gathered plenty of gold stars during 2020.
8. Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask
Why it's loved: If you thought the hype around this product was just clever (and pink) Instagram marketing at its best, we can confidentially burst that bubble. The super-hydrating formula may feel snot-like when applied, but the glow and plumped-up complexion you wake to is worth any texture adversity.
7. REN Ready Steady Glow Tonic
Why it's loved: Ideal for treating skin that's making a fuss, REN's glow tonic hydrates and calms the complexion at the same time that it exfoliates – no easy feat. It's all thanks to the gentle but effective blend of lactic acid, azelaic acid and white willow bark.
6. Sunday Riley CEO Face Serum
Why it's loved: If you're really keen to see what vitamin C serum can do for your skin, this 15 per cent potent blend is one of the best. And don't worry if you're sensitive either; the trick is in the phytosterols complex that soothes and reduces inflammation as it gets to work.
5. Dr Dennis Gross Spectralite Faceware Pro
Why it's loved: If you're wondering how on earth a $700 device was one of the top-selling products of the year, the proof is in the pudding. Many happy customers reported a reduction in fine lines and pigmentation, plus minimised pores and plumper skin. And that's before we even get to the cystic acne sufferers, who rave about its complexion-clearing abilities.
3. Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream
2. Drunk Elephant C Firma Day Serum
Why it's loved: It's clear vitamin C deserves ingredient of the year, but what sets this serum apart from the rest is its ability to simultaneously exfoliate while it brightens and firms. The powerful antioxidant is paired with pumpkin ferment and pomegranate extract, which helps to dissolve dead skin cells and minimise the appearance of pores. The result? Seriously smooth skin that glows.
1. Go-To Face Hero
Why it's loved: Rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants, this peach bottle isn't just a looker, she'll also nourish any skin type she's slathered on, too. We're also stoked to see a homegrown Aussie favourite take out the top-selling spot.
