Meet the Crew: Kate Niven, BEAUTYcrew
Beauty Crew Contributor / May 30 2018
Tell us a bit about your experience in the industry
I’ve interned for a few PR and advertising companies within the fashion, lifestyle and beauty fields before I jumped into the publishing world, first at marie claire in early 2016 and then with Beauty Crew in February 2016
What’s been your biggest career highlight?
Definitely toasting to Beauty Crew on our first birthday in February. It’s been incredible to be with the site since the week it launched.
What’s been your favourite beauty discovery?
It’s a technique rather than a product, but spot concealing. I spent years in high school applying layer upon layer of concealer all over my face in the hope it would cover any and all blemishes on my skin. I’ve since learned that taking the time to apply small amounts of product to specific areas is absolutely the way to go.
What do you think is the one beauty product every woman should own?
A good quality oil cleanser. Not only does it make removing makeup a breeze, it ensures your skin isn’t left feeling tight or dry after cleansing.
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever learnt?
To study your face and learn which products and shades best suit you. For instance, I have blue eyes, so bronze and peach eyeshadow tones work best to bring out my eye colour.
Confess your biggest beauty sin
Using heat styling tools on a nearly everyday basis. I know how damaging it can be, however, my hair often has a mind of its own in the mornings.
What’s your biggest beauty battle?
Despite regular attempts, I just can’t seem to master the art of winged eyeliner. I always perfect one but completely ruin the other and then I end up looking like a panda when I try to fix the wing with a cotton bud!
Who is your beauty idol?
Emma Watson and Blake Lively – they both always look so elegant and glamorous.
The three beauty products we’d find in your cosmetic bag right now
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – This medium coverage foundation glides onto the skin, evening and blurring as it goes while delivering a glowing and fresh finish.
CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Colour Lipshine in Boy – If you have light to medium skin and are on the hunt for a pinky nude lipstick, I would look no further than this one. It’s an ultra hydrating lipstick that packs the perfect amount of colour to be able to swipe it on, sans mirror.
Jo Malone London Mimosa and Cardamom Cologne – I won’t bother listing the notes of this perfume as that never helps me get a feel for the scent. However, if I were to describe it, I’d say it smells like warm sunshine and I can’t help but smile when I spritz it every morning.
What is your beauty philosophy?
Makeup should be used to enhance and accentuate your natural features rather than hide them.
