Meghan Markle’s makeup artist says this is why your makeup isn’t lasting past lunchtime

*mind blown*

Do you start the day with your makeup perfectly blended, looking like a snack, only to find come lunchtime, every product you applied has seemingly slipped off your face and given way to an oily, muddy mess? Yeah, same.

According to Meghan Markle’s makeup artist Daniel Martin, this recurring nightmare is completely avoidable, and the solution is as simple as switching up a few of your base makeup products in the morning.

“If you put a silicone primer in between the moisturiser and the foundation, heat will break that up, because water and oil don’t mix.” Martin explained in an episode of the beauty podcast Gloss Angeles. “So, once it’s on the skin and you have the heat on your skin activating it, that separation is going to happen over time.”

So, the very thing intended to make our makeup last longer is the problem? Great.

Martin recommends ditching oil-based primers for water-based formulations. “I use a water-based foundation, so I need something that is water-based to magnetise on the skin,” he says, adding that we should steer clear of applying facial oils over our foundation as this will also result in the product separating.

In terms of a primer he rates for its longevity, Martin says, “I love the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer. It’s great for anybody that has textured skin. I’ll use it mostly on the T-zone, not all over the face.”
