Miley Cyrus just got a mullet and we don't know how to feel

Miley Cyrus paid tribute to her childhood roots on her 27th birthday by celebrating the old fashioned way - with a fresh haircut courtesy of her mum, Trish.

But it seems the songstress soon regretted the decision and promptly dialled her hairdresser to fix the look.

Three days ago, Cyrus' mum took to Instagram to share a video of herself cutting her daughter's long blonde hair. In the video, the mother-of-five can be seen teasing the locks through her hands before chopping it into one seriously blunt cut.

"Giving @mileycyrus a little B-day haircut!! #staytuned #itsgood," she captioned the clip.

But it seems Cyrus was simply prepping her hair for a more dramatic transformation, as the former Disney star later booked an appointment with A-list hair guru Sally Hershberger.

In a photograph shared by the stylist, Cyrus showcases a choppier 'do which Hershberger refers to as a "modern mullet".

Teasing the new look on Instagram, Hershberger wrote: "PUNK VIBE🤘🏻✂️🖤."

"Miley wanted to go more punk. She wanted something edgy," Hershberger revealed. "We went with a modern mullet that she can wear sleek, but also wavy and messy."

For those out there who wish to recreate the daring style this season, the stylist gave lessons in achieving the Cyrus-approved cut.

But it was a rather quiet affair, as the songstress underwent vocal chord surgery last month after a bout of tonsillitis. To ensure Cyrus gets the vocal rest she needs, the A-list clan threw a "silent birthday" for the singer.

Taking to Instagram Stories to reveal details of last weekend's bash, Cyrus wrote: "I will never forget my silent 27th birthday. Thanks to my friends and family who made it so special!"

"A silent birthday looks like this," she added. "I have an app that helps me communicate but it really botches the comedic timing."
