‘Mirror blonde’ is the shiny hair colour we can’t get enough of

Trending Now: Mirror Blonde Hair 2020

Here’s how to up the wattage of your locks

With an influx of products and treatments that encourage over-exaggeration, such as juicy lips, sculpted arches, and ethereal skin, 2020 is set to be the year of hyperreal beauty. In the hair department, a new colour trend has emerged; high-wattage and ultra-shiny blonde is making a scene already this year, and we’re totally here for it.

‘Mirror blonde’ is exactly as it sounds - it’s a creamy blonde colour that’s uber glossy, but not in a shimmery, metallic way. It looks almost reflective, like you’ve permanently got a flashing lightbulb next to your hair. Talk about Insta-worthy locks, right?

Now is the perfect time to give this blonde hair colour a go. “As we're in the warmer months of the year, everyone wants to have that clean, bright, creamy, shiny blonde,” says Jordan Hone, Director of Sloans North Sydney and L'Oréal Professionnel Guest Artist.

Before you run off to your hairdresser to get this look, we bear this news: this colour can be tricky to achieve. “[The colour] really suits those with a fair skin tone (the colour won’t be as stark) and a lighter base hair colour, as you’re more likely to achieve that really clean colour,” explains Hone.

Also, the colour is more likely to pop on medium-length hair. “Hair no longer than collarbone works best because if your hair is any longer, the colour can start to look muddy,” says Hone. “This is from a build-up of environmental factors and too many toners in the hair.”

If you’ve got your heart set on this colour, it’s also important to remember to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy, so it won’t snap post hair appointment. These products are just the thing for this eye-catching colour:

Biolage Sugar Shine Shampoo: Glossy hair starts in the shower, so make it a top priority to wash your hair with a shampoo that improves luminosity.

Kérastase Résistance Ciment Thermique: This heat protector boasts nourishing properties and can decrease your blow-dry time significantly. Plus, the milky texture melts into hair immediately, making it a top choice for all hair types to use.

L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Ring Light Spray: “This product is a shine spray, and can make your hair look even glossier,” says Hone. Hold the can about 30 centimetres from your head and spritz liberally.
