Over the last few years, the humble makeup compact has had a serious makeover. Beyond its ability to house a brick of tinted powder and a sponge to touch up your T-zone throughout the day, the newest iterations of the compact play home to liquid foundation, and the latest slew even offer more uses than just acting as a base. Here are the latest and greatest in the emerging category.
Best for: perfectionists
The newest launch from Lancôme is the Absolue Smoothing Liquid Cushion Compact, which is a reparative liquid foundation packaged in a cushion compact for ease of use. Interestingly, the sponge included is in the shape of a guitar pick, where the larger rounded side can be used to sweep colour across larger areas of the face like the cheeks, and the pointed end can be used to touch-up trickier areas like under the eyes and around the nose. Best of all, there’s also a fluffy brush included in the mix that you can use to buff the colour into your complexion for a flawless finish.
Best for: dull complexions
Can’t get enough of your YSL Touche Éclat makeup pen? Then beware, you’re definitely going to be addicted to YSL’s new cushion compact, the Touche Éclat Cushion. Offering a gorgeous, brightening finish that can be built up from a light to medium coverage, this is one product you must add to cart immediately before it sells out.
Best for: dry skin
CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Cushion is more of a water-based gel-cream formula packed into a portable compact. The formula is lightweight to wear, feels refreshing on the skin and can nourish throughout the day, making it a top choice for those that suffer from dry skin in winter.
Best for: ageing skin
Estée Lauder Perfectionist Serum Compact Makeup SPF 15 (pictured on the left) is like a block of creamy colour that melts upon contact with a sponge. As for the finish, it leaves the skin looking naturally flawless and offers a medium coverage that won’t look cakey. Bonus: the smoothing formula can also blur problematic areas and fill in fine lines.
Best for: daily wear
If you’re looking for something with more of a glowing finish, try Maybelline New York Dream Cushion Foundation, which contains tiny light-diffusing pigments that can bring your complexion to life. The best part? This product even contains added sun protection of SPF 40.
Best for: oily skin
Those with oilier skin types tend to battle with their base sliding off halfway through the day. Thankfully, Dior Diorskin Forever Cushion is a cushion compact that offers a mattifying yet slightly luminous finish, which has been tested to last up to 16 hours.
