Nicole Kidman was actual #braidgoals at the AACTA Awards

Nicole Kidman fishtail braid

It’s the hairstyle that works on every age

Nicole Kidman just rocked up to the AACTA Awards red carpet in Sydney wearing THE most goal-worthy braid - and it’s seriously sparked something inside of us, because now we want to wear braids every day, all summer long.

The actress attended the 2018 AACTA Awards for her supporting role in Boy Erased, and her stunning hairstyle demanded ALL the attention.

Her hair was styled to the side in a low fishtail braid, with loose tendrils left out around the front, framing her face for a soft and effortless look. Her makeup was kept pared-back and natural to compliment her hairstyle.

While it seems like it would be impossible to copy Nicole’s killer braid game, it’s actually not as hard as you might think. Just keep in mind that your hair needs to have a slightly rough, thick texture, (second day hair is the jam!).

To get the look, divide your hair into two even sections. Pull out a third, smaller piece from the underside of the right section and cross it over the top of the right section (just like your average plait) before adding it to the left section and pulling tight – remember to start your plait low at the nape of the neck and slightly off-centre. Repeat this on the opposite side, using a smaller piece from the underside of the left section. Simply keep alternating between sides, working your way over your shoulder so your plait naturally falls forward. TOP TIP: Grab the same sized pieces from each section.

Once you’ve reached about five centimetres from the bottom of your hair, secure with a hair tie. For an effortless, boho-inspired look à la Nicole, loosen the ponytail by gently tugging on the sides of the plait and curl sections of hair around the face.
