Olivia Culpo sauntered down the 2018 Country Music Awards red carpet showing off the prettiest, most sultry makeup look we’ve seen in yonks and we are *so* here for it. While we all love a good trend (just check out Kendall Jenner’s green eyeliner look at the People’s Choice Awards), Olivia proves there are some makeup staples that never go out of style for a reason.

Olivia’s classic cat eye reminded us how flattering a good winged liquid liner can be, and how it pulls everything together in one swift flick (or a few attempted flicks, if you’re anything like us!).

The trick to mastering a classic winged liner like the one Olivia is rocking, is to find the right eyeliner for the job. We suggest using a liquid liner over a gel or pencil for this look as nothing makes a line super crisp better than an ultra-fine tip! We recommend Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner, Rimmel London Glam' Eyes Professional Liquid Liner or Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner.

We all know applying eyeliner is no easy feat, but practice makes perfect and it’s so worth it once you nail the technique. To make application a smidge easier, avoid pulling the skin tight around their eyes (we’re all guilty of this) because this can cause bumpiness and texture. Instead, look down into a hand mirror and trace along your lash line with short strokes – the end result will look waaaay smoother.

As for the actual wing, if you’re a bit on the shaky side, don’t stress. This part can easily be faked! All you have to do is draw your best wing (to get the angle right, imagine a line from the outer corner of your eye to the tip of your brow) and clean up any mistakes/sharpen the line with some micellar water and an angled eyeliner brush.

Given this winged eye look is super dramatic, take your cues from Olivia and pair it with a clean and beautifully sculpted face and little else. Stick to a pinky-nude colour for your lips and use a foundation that leaves your complexion looking fresh and glowing.
