Ever seen a clip of someone cutting open a cake coated in plain vanilla or chocolate icing only to reveal the layers of bright rainbow sponge inside? ‘Peekaboo hair’ is the hair colour equivalent of just that.

Unlike the E-Girl hair trend that sees chunky streaks framing the face, the peekaboo vibe is all about (as the name would suggest) keeping the colour disguised until you want to show it off.

How, you ask? The highlights, lowlights or brightly coloured streaks are hidden under the top layer of your hair, so that when your hair is down it’s pretty much impossible to see them.

When you opt for an updo or you treat onlookers to a glorious hair flip, however, your statement shade (or shades if you’re into a rainbow effect) totally steal the spotlight.
