my experienced hairdresser told me to THROW IT OUT

I never write reviews but I had to with this product. I really thought buying this product would leave my hair super soft and conditioned. It smells nice, however I was very disappointed as it left my hair really dry and brittle, and straw like!! It made my hair feel like the moisture had been sucked right out of it!! (I have naturally fine, soft, wavy hair). I had used the product in my hair about 24 hours before my hairdressing appointment and my hairdresser (who knows my hair well) asked me wtf I had put in my hair, as it "felt super dry and siliconey". I told her it was this product, and she told me to THROW IT OUT and never use it again as it is doing the opposite of hydrating!! It is not a good hair mask at all, super gimmicky, do NOT trust the label at all, this has put me off a lot of L'oreal hair products now. I'm shocked at the amount of good reviews this has, please please please get something else that's more worthwhile as I don't want anyone to make the same mistake I did :)

It dries hair

I can’t believe these other reviews! I will get my magnifying lens and find out why this seemingly good product literally makes my hair dry and straw like. Since I’m looking for the exact opposite, this is a big disappointment. Tried it on dry hair - awful. Crunchy hair. Tried it as a blow drying protectant - possibly works but it’s not helping to hydrate or smooth. Tried it after it’s wet and when my hair dries it feels awful. Im not sure what else to do to make this work but I’m probably going to throw it out as it must hace something in it other than coconut and something to make it a cream. It dries hair... surprising and problematic given most people will be looking for the opposite. Get something else.

Great mask , very good value for money

Great mask I have coloured hair and it becomes so dry , especially the ends. That mask is absolutely beautiful , it has a really thick texture , only a small amount of product is required. It is very nourishing , my hair became so soft and shiny , and it smells gorgeous. The coconut scent is one of my favourite.
The product: L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Hair Mask  My opinion:  I'm a huge fan of all things coconut based and so my sister recommended this hair treatment to me for this reason and also because I have very frizzy, dry and curly hair that needs a good treatment. I must admit I am a bit of a haircare snob and generally don’t buy supermarket haircare brands as I usually find they don’t contain enough added nourishing oils or repairing ingredients. Having said that I am incredibly pressed for time in the mornings and want a product that’s quick and easy to use, yet is effective in keeping my frizz well managed all day if possible. I was excited to use this L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Hair Mask, for this reason as it can be used in more than one way…so really this product is more than just a mask! I generally prefer products in squeezable tubes or pump bottles, and this comes in a 300ml thick plastic tub which makes it a bit messy to use in the shower. As soon as I opened the tub for the first time, I got a strong but very pleasant and uplifting tropical coconut scent, which made me even more excited to want to try this product! I dipped my fingers into the tub and scooped out about a tablespoon’s worth of product to test it out as a leave in treatment or pre-shampoo. This ‘mask’ is designed to be used in various ways; as a moisturising pre-shampoo treatment, as a in shower hair mask and as a post-shampooing leave-in treatment or styling cream. I decided to use it as a pre-shampoo treatment the first time I used it, as I don’t usually use pre-shampoo treatments. When I first applied this product to my hair I was pleasantly surprised at how lightweight it is and it didn’t feel heavy or greasy like most coconut oil based products. I actually thought it would be quite heavy, even for my dry frizzy hair, but it really didn’t weigh my hair down and even helped define my curls to some extent. After shampooing my hair, I did feel that it was a lot softer and it didn’t have that dry, straw-like feel I sometimes get when I use too much shampoo. I have used this mask as a in shower treatment after shampooing and as a leave-in treatment, and I would say it does seem to work best as a mask in the shower and I leave it in my hair for 5 minutes before rinsing.  However overall I feel like my hair needs something that’s a bit more rich and hydrating, I would have also liked if this product had some more conditioning or hair repairing ingredients such as keratin, for example. This mask is a good supermarket buy if you don’t want to splurge but want a good product that can be used on wet and dry hair. I find it’s a bit too light and not nourishing enough to manage my frizz and curls, but my favourite thing about it is of course the beautiful tropical scent.  Best for: This product is great for all hair types, but if you have very, very dry or frizzy hair then you may want something a bit more rich or heavier than this. Also if you don’t like strong sweet scents, then the fragrance may be too overpowering for you.  Repurchase: no, unfortunately as it didn’t do too much to manage my dryness or frizz.
I am a big fan of coconut so if you are too you will love this just by smell alone! It has a fairly strong creamy coconut fragrance that is strongest when you apply it, however I felt after I washed it out it didn’t really linger. I used this as a treatment while in the shower- I shampooed my hair and then squeezed out the excess water and then applied it. You don’t need a whole lot either- so it’s quite economical. I have quite dry hair and it is the worst to brush out after washing, but I found that the mask helped to alleviate this. I also used it as a leave in treatment after washing to help detangle my hair before I brushed it. I did find that I didn’t get as long out of my wash and needed to reach for the dry shampoo a bit earlier than I normally would, but it is a nourishing product and this is to be expected. If you have dry hair or want to give your hair a little boost I would definitely give this a try, it’s very affordable and really requires little to no effort to use. It left my hair feeling smooth and looked nice and shiny too, would definitely recommend.
I love trying new hair treatments. I have thick coloured andbleached hair and am always looking for new products which will hydrate andrepair my hair. Luckily my hair is not overly damaged as is generally in ahealthier condition, but I love the feeling of satin soft and hydrated hair, asmine tends towards dryness. I have several of the L’Oreal professional shampoos andconditioners that work wonderfully in my hair and so was very happy to try thishair mask. I definitely like treatments and masks where there are several waysof using it; in this case either as a normal wash out mask, or a leave intreatment. The first time I tried this I used it as a rinse-outtreatment, after leaving it in for approximately 10 minutes after shampooing. Was it was rinsed out, I noted that my hair did feel very light and soft andthis was the same after drying. Unfortunately, I would say that I didn’t noticeany prolonged hydration from the mask. Whilst my hair felt soft andconditioned, I did not notice any increased shine which I would have liked. I then used this as a leave-in treatment. I used a smallamount and spread it through my ends and mid-lengths of my hair. I did notnotice any improvement after doing this and did not notice any hydration orshine increases. If anything, I noticed that my hair became oilier afterstyling. Overall, I love the scent as I do enjoy anything coconut, though I understand this may not be to everyone’s tastes. I did notice animprovement to the hydration of my hair after using it as a rinse out treatmentbut not as a leave in. With my hair shine was not improved, though this may bedifferent with other types of hair. I did like this product, but I feel thatthere are some others which I have used previously which do more of what I needfor a similar price point.
There are many ways to use this hair mask according to the instruction but my favourite way to use this is as a wash off hair treatment. I really love the coconut scent of this mask. It smells so so so niceeeee. The texture of this mask is very soft and creamy. I find it makes my feel smoother and more nourishing after using it. it claims that this mask won't weight your hair down but on my dry hair I do find that it can get oily the next day if I use a tad bit more of this product even when it's only on the tip of my hair (not the roots). So my tips is control the amount of product you put on, don't go overboard with this one especially if your hair get oily easily.  Pros: nice scent nourish and make your hair smooth affordable Cons: can get oily if you use to much -> have to be careful  Overall, it's a nice product for the price. I would recommend this to people who have dry or damaged hair.
The Elvive oil coconut hair mask comes in a gorgeous pearlescent white jar with an orange/bronzey screw-on lid. The wide mouth of the jar makes it easy to scoop out the right amount of the thick hair mask.  The mask is a thick, white conditioner consistency with a very strong coconut scent. If you're into coconut scents, you'll love this one! The hair mask is infused with coconut oil to condition and nourish hair strands as an overnight mask, in the shower mask or as a leave-in conditioner afterwards.   I love that the conditioner nourishes and conditions my hair without weighing it down. It revives tired, lifeless strands by taming frizz and giving it a smoother, glosser finish. Brushing my hair is also easier with less knots to comb out as the conditioner helps detangle hair.  Overall, I enjoy masking with this but do feel the coconut scent is a tad strong for me. I could smell the scent on my hair on day 3 hair which is unusual. But yea, if you're a coconut scent lover, you'll probably enjoy this!
I really enjoyed trialling this product. I have damaged hair from bleach and styling. My hair can be frizzy and dry but with oily roots (a lovely combination!) and I love a good conditioning treatment that doesn’t leave my hair a greasy mess. This product worked magic on my hair and left it smooth and manageable and completely frizz free. The scent is amazing; it smells delicious without being sickly sweet or over-powering. I can’t believe the affordability of the price. It’s truly a bargain and a product I will definitely repurchase!
I have very dry hair damaged hair so I was really excited to try the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Hair Mask. It comes in a screw top plastic container and inside is a very thick, mild tropical coconut smelling creamy formula.  I apply in the shower one a week after washing my hair with shampoo only as when I use a mask because I find that using conditioner too I end up with an oily build up on my scalp afterwards. I leave for 5-10 minutes and simply rinse out. I absolutely love that it restores my hair back up to its full OMMPHH, with hydration and shine.  I like that it doesn't weigh my hair down and really keeps my hair moisturised between washes. This product also leaves a longlasting scent through your hair which is a definite bonus too.
I LOVE THIS! This mask might just be my favourite hair product discovery  in years, certainly is my favourite at the moment. I say "discovery", but it was discovered for me by BeautyCREW and graciously sent to me to try out, and what a saviour this mask has been with its multitude of ways to use! MY HAIR: Fine, prone to limpness, dryness and frizziness. Shoulder-length at the moment. PRODUCT PACKAGING: The mask comes in a generous 300 mL tub that manages to look both elegant and adorable. The shape makes it easy to carry even with wet hands. TEXTURE & CONSISTENCY: Thick, white cream that nevertheless sinks into hair strands lightly and beautifully, and leaves no greasy residue in spite of the coconut oil. SCENT: The heavenly scent conjures an image of lounging about by the pool at a Balinese villa while drinking coconut water out of the fruit, surrounded by fragrant frangipani trees. It's so beautiful, it transports me into a daydream where I'm taking a tropical vacation. It really is the perfect summer scent, although no doubt I would love it in the cooler months, too. PERFORMANCE: Apart from brightening my day by virtue of its divine scent, this mask has given my hair a much-needed nourishment, and depending on how I used it, more shine, lustre and smoothness. Here's a breakdown of how I used the mask and my results: - Pre-shampoo: It is recommended to leave it on anytime between 5 minutes to overnight, but since I'm always pressed for time, 30 minutes seems to be my sweet spot. When I use it this way, I find I use more product because otherwise it doesn't feel like a "treatment". I also apply it all over my scalp, not just my hair. It washes off easily and completely, leaving no residue, yet my hair looks smoother and healthier than if I hadn't treated it with this mask. - Post-shampoo deep conditioning: I've only used it this way once, where I would leave this on for up to 10 minutes after coming out of the shower, and then wash it off. I like that I need to use less than I would a traditional conditioner, yet I get better results. Again, my hair feels light and shiny afterwards, and the scent lingers for a few hours. - As a leave-in treatment: This is my absolute favourite way! All I need is a three-finger scoopful of product, rub it around my palm and run it down the strands of my damp hair, and let it dry or style as usual. I love how gorgeous my hair smells all day and how healthy it looks. Unlike many other leave-in treatments, it doesn't drag my hair down or make it greasy to the point where I need to wash it everyday. Instead, I can be lazy and twist my hair up in a bun overnight and still have voluminous, frizz-free, healthy hair the next day. - As a finishing product: I haven't tried applying this mask on dry hair, but I suspect I would need more product, and judging by how my hair looked when I used it as a pre-shampoo treatment, I'm not sure I would like it. RECOMMEND?: YES! I would repurchase this mask in a heartbeat, and I'm so happy I got to trial it. It's lightweight yet nourishing, and my hair definitely feels loved.
Firstly, I have short, fine hair and generally struggle to find treatments that don’t weigh my hair down.  I used this product in a variety of ways; as a conditioner, a leave in treatment, to help style and as a finishing product, and I ended up liking it best as a rinse-out conditioner. I did find that it weighed my hair down slightly if I used it to style or finish my hair. I also used this product on my daughter’s long curly hair in place of conditioner and it worked great to condition and smooth her hair.  She loved the scent, so it made washing her hair much easier! I would have preferred squeeze tube packaging (particularly for use in the shower), and I did find the coconut scent a bit too strong for my liking, but otherwise it’s an effective product that would be best suited for those with thick or coarse hair.
I absolutely loved this product! At first, I was a bit hesitant to use it because if it did something bad to my hair then I would be stuck looking crazy for the rest of the day. But I bit the bullet and used the hair mask after my shower, leaving it in and then washing it out and air drying my hair. When it first dried my hair looked the same but when I woke the next day there was an unmistakable shine and my hair felt softer to the touch. The whole day I got compliments about my hair and people asking me what I had changed to get this healthy glow. L’Oréal Paris is a really great brand and everything I have used of theirs has worked really well. The Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Hair Mask was no exception its a hair mask for all hair types. It contains extra-fine coconut oil to nourish and protect the hair while also boosting shine. One of my favourite things is that it can be used as a traditional rinse-out mask or a small amount can be applied as a leave-in treatment, finishing balm or scalp treatment. The only problem I had was when I used it as a leave-in conditioner - it made my hair clump together and feel oily like I had not washed out conditioner properly. Apart from this I absolutely loved the product, great smell and dual nature - Highly recommend as a hair mask.
Really not sold on this and I really wanted to be. Ugh. I am still on the hunt for the ultimate hydrating products for my hair. I have curly, thick, colour treated hair which is a little prone to dryness. This product looked like a miracle in a jar. There were so many uses - on dry hair, as a mask on dry hair, as a mask on wet hair, leave in conditioner - just to name a few. I was excited to use it! I first used it on my wet hair post shampoo for about 20 mins for a deep treatment. Did not notice much difference. My other conditioning treatment was WAY above this. hair still felt dry. I tried it as a pre-wash on dry hair as directed.....WOW. My hair was an absolute tangled mess. I washed it out and no results......my hair was no different from pre-wash. I used it as a leave in conditioner and to smooth fly aways. All it did was create a gunky feeling in my hair.  The smell was amazing though. My husband complimented it when i had it in. That is a plus. I can't recommend this product. I felt for something that was supposed to be uber hydrating it did nothing for my curly, colour treated hair. Not a fan.
Thank you BeautyCrew and L'Oreal for including this hair treatment in the supercrew kit! My hair is coloured, dry and honestly, quite damaged.  I never leave home with applying a leave in treatment.  This mask can be used in 3 different ways. 1. As a pre shampoo treatment; 2. As a post shampoo treatment; 3. As a leave in treatment. I have tried all the different ways. It is very nice when used as a pre-shampoo treatment. I apply it on dry hair, leave on foe 30 minutes and wash it off before shampoo. I found that it makes my hair smoother and softer.  The only problem is that I have to use so much product on dry hair (I have long hair with medium thickness), the big tub would only last 4 to 5 times if I keep using it this way. Next, I try it as a post shampoo treatment. After shampoo I apply 2x 50c coin size to my hair. I leave it in for about 3 minutes before rinsing off. My hair is again soft and more manageable. I have also used it as a leave in treatment on towel dried hair. I found that I have to use more (20c to 50c coin size) when compared to other leave in treatment.  The reason that I do not like to use it this way is because of the strong, way-too-sweet coconut smell.  Some people would love it, but I am not a fan. So I prefer to have it rinsed off and will continue to use it that way.
I am obsessed with anything coconut so I was pretty excited to see this in my trial pack! I wash my hair twice a week and so have been using this after shampoo and leaving in for approximately 5-10 minutes. I have used it for a month or so and cant say I've noticed a huge amount of difference in my hair. I definitely wouldn't say its anything 'extraordinary'  I do notice afterward my hair is shiny and smells so nice, but it has not helped with any of my frizziness. I'll use this until it runs out and unfortunately am still on the hunt for my HG hair mask.
I honestly didn't expect much when I was sent this... but now I can't live without it. It has become my holy grail shower product. I have very long and straight (Asian) hair that has been colour treated, so it can feel quite dry at times. Upon opening the product I was a little overwhelmed by the scent. It's a strong floral fragrance that does not really smell like coconut, but I can manage it for the beautiful results the product gives. It's a thick white cream in consistency and feels butter-rich on the hair as a hair mask. After leaving it on for 5 minutes, I went in with a wide-tooth comb and was amazed to see that my tangles were combing out completely effortlessly, and that my hair felt like silk. However, the real results came after my hair dried and it was STILL silky smooth, soft and glossy (like fresh salon hair). It became addicting to use. I had compliments on my hair every day after using this product, even from strangers passing by, and I had changed nothing except incorporate this hair mask into my routine. Hair felt extremely soft and touchable until the next wash (2-3 days). The smell only lingers subtly which I'm thankful for. The tub will last you a solid 2-3 months with weekly use and I can't believe the price tag (I even see it for half price occasionally!). I would even pay a high-end price tag for this little gem. Unbelieveable results at an unbeatable price. Holy grail!
I have to say, I quite love Loreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary products. They work quite well with my hair so I was really happy to try this hair mask out. Since I usually prefer products that are not heavily scented, this one smells a little too strong of coconut in the tub. It has a creamy consistency & spreads easily on wet hair. I use it as a conditioner/hair mask and I love the results! I have oily scalp and roots with dry ends, so I always apply the mask on my hair ends. I notice that if I apply it too close to my roots, it makes my roots oily faster & makes my hair flatter too. A little goes a long long way & my dry ends love it! My hair becomes silky soft after rinsing it with a faint fragrance lingering around. It doesn't weigh down my hair so I still get the volume. I prefer to use hair oils for leave in treatments so I didn't use this for that purpose. However, since I only need a little each time, it'll last me a long time. If you are looking for an affordable & good quality hair mask, definitely try it out!
Only way I could use this mask is traditional way: as a hair mask after washing it, leaving it on for a few minutes then rinsing. Did try other recommendations, but make things worse. As a hair mask, it is just an average mask. Makes hair soft, easy to brush and smell is nice. I am huge fan of coconut scent in beauty products. This one is not too strong and it does not last, but still....great.  Mask is quite thick. So tried to apply it on dry hair as one of the recommendations. Hair was really bad. Impossible to brush trough, became "stiff" and when trying to brush, there was lots of tugging and breakage. So I decided not to do this any more.   My hair is quite damaged though. So this mask would work the best for normal hair. Mine is super long, fine texture, colour treated and not trimmed in ages.
First of all the smell of this hair treatment is amazing -its a fresh natural coconut summer smell-it smells just like summer. It is strong enough without being overpowering or too much for the senses.  Next it comes in a huge 300ml white stylish container with a gold lid. It looks super pretty yet sleek in the bathroom. It stands up straight without any leaking, as well as lid being sturdy.  The 300mls is a great huge size making it affordable and long lasting. L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Coconut Hair Mask can be used three ways : 1) pre-shampoo, 2) Under the shower, after shampoo, and 3) As a leave-in treatment and is designed for normal to dry hair.    I used this all three ways but found the most beneficial way was to use after shampoo leaving in hair for 2-3 minutes.  It's a white creamy lotion that is easy to scoop out of the container and  through the hair.  The lotion literally melts into my hair absorbing to the areas I need the most moisture.   I would suggest only using a small amount to start with because if I used too much it made my hair oilier quicker than usual.  My hair is fine and dry with very damaged ends After using this treatment I found my hair is so soft and silky , its a breeze to brush through my hair without knotting or tangling up.   I do find this treatment takes away my dry ends and leaves hair really soft, however I don't find it takes away my flyways.  I find my hair still seems really frizzy- it still looks frizzy. However hair look super shinny so it lives up to this claim.  Overall the hair looks very shinny and smells lovely for days. I think this mask is great for dry hair and those that need a bit of hydration. Its a really affordable and will last such a long time too. I would recommend it.  Made in Germany Loreal are not cruelty free.
