Australis Mixologist Lip Palette

This is an innovative DIY palette where you can mix your own lip colours. it comes with 10 shades and you can mix multiple of them to create your desired shade. The colours are all quite pigmented and mix well together. It comes with dual-ended tool with a brush on one end and a small paddle on the other for you to scoop the colours out. Half of the shades could be used as is, but you also have the hue-altering shades like black, white, blue, yellow and purple. What I noticed immediately was that I'd like somewhere on the palette to actually mix the colours, like an empty slot. I didn't like the idea of putting it on the transparent lid which would ruin the look of the palette when closed. So I end up having to use a separate small plastic tray for this. Mixing your own lip colours sounds like great fun, until you realise that it's actually easier said than done! It takes a bit of trial and error. Once you get the shade you want, it's not always easy to reproduce the next time, unless you can memorise or take a note of each colour combination and the amount used. The palette doesn't really come with any documentation of any examples that you can follow. Overall it's still a fun product, though when I'm in a hurry I tend not to use it and just stick with my regular lipsticks. It's good for people who enjoy experimenting.

Australis is a brand i have grown up with...as a young 20 something,i used this brand and really felt like an Aussie beauty when i did.It felt all "beachy" / "sun bunny" / "youthful",and it was priced at a point that i could buy a lippy whilst also saving for a home. This genius product from Australis is not just a collection of 10 shades to be worn alone (although,of course you can),but the Mixologist Lip Palette is soooo much more.When mixed with any other shade of lipstick you have,it will change it to a completely different hue...so you are the creator of your own,bespoke shade.If you want to use this palette only,think of the colours as 5 types of base colours (the top row) and 5 types of hue & tone-adjusting colours (the bottom row).The top shades are wearable,basic hues that you can wear on their own,but to mix it up,you add the bottom row to personalise (EG:Mix a little of the red shade with a little of the blue to make a stunning berry red,or mix with black to make a "chic goth" type deep red that will be perfect for a simple,basic eye look,mix that pink with a little yellow,and you'll have a summery,vibrant coral shade),really,the only limit is your imagination.So that's all good and well,but what about the product itself ? Well,the lip shades are a pleasant,rich texture,are scent free and feel nice to wear,BUT the wearability is not quite what you would want..it doesn't like eating / drinking / smooching,neither does it like staying put without a little bleeding (but this can be rectified by using this mixed with any really matte shades you have own that you want to play with).Also,whilst it is great to have the brush that comes with it,a little "well" in the palette to mix the shades in would be perfect (another palette i own like this has exactly that,and it makes mixing a lot easier),but at the price this is,you can use the back of your hand to work with it.The casing that holds this collection is quite interesting...swirls of black on the clear plastic send your mind racing with ideas,whilst the black underside shows off the colours beautifully. All in all,for the pricepoint (under $25) this is a really handy product,and could save you a bundle on getting "just the right shade" of any lippy you could imagine. TIP:Mix / play / experiment.This is a palette to have fun with and to try looks you may have never thought of before...go wild.

This is a super fun palette and an affordable dupe to the ABH lip palette. There are endless combinations you can mix to create unique lip colours so it's great value for money. The formula is creamy and blendable, though will have to be reapplied after a meal. I even got one as a gift for someone that loves lipstick. Great stuff from Australis!

The perfect travel lip palette, I carry this everywhere it's so easy to mix and achieve the perfect colour to complete any makeup look. It definitely has a beautiful finish and keeps your lips hydrated. There is just one con, it doesn't last all that long so touch ups are required.

This is a great mixer colour palette. I bought this for my niece who dances as I thought the fun bright colours would be good for the stage, really theatrical. These colours blend well together to create tons of different colours you just have to get creative, there are no limits. This palette includes a handy duel ended brush with a colour mixer on one side and lip brush for application on the other. The handy container snaps shut for no mess and at  $25.00 it's great value as Australis always is. It comes with 10 great lip colours to create a multitude of looks, great fun. This mixologist is highly pigmented so stains lips well and really lasts. This is a great palette especially for young ones and dancers. I highly recommend it.

The Australis Mixologist Lip Palette is one of the years best releases at the drugstore. It's an amazing palette that's great for travelling. You can create so many different day and night time looks in minutes. While the shades look slightly intimidating when you first look at them (hello blue and yellow shades), once you know which shades work together the palette isn't scary at all. The palette comes with a dual ended brush that has a mixer on one side and a lip brush on the other. You can use the back of your clean hand to mix the shades (your body heat will help them mix easily) but I would suggest purchasing a mixing plate as it's easier and cleaner.  The formula is on the thicker side, so you only need a small amount of product, unless you're going to put some in a little tub to reapply throughout the day.It's highly pigmented and I've found most of the colours stains my lips slightly but is easily removed with a damp cloth or micellar water. A lot of what makes this palette great is being able to easily mix colours and creating some fun shades that you might not have in your collection. You can also use these colours to add with your lipstick if you find it's too light/dark/not orange enough/too pink/etc.  The formula lasts as long as most lipsticks and will need to be reapplied after eating.There is no scent added to the formula, which is great if you don't like lipstick scents.  I would suggest this for someone who travels a lot, who's picky with lipstick shades or someone who's creative and loves to experiment with their make up. There's a list on the Australis website showing you which colours to mix to create a new shade, but I do wish they had that printed on the packaging instead to make it easier. The palette is $24.95 and is completely worth it! There's so many new shades that you can create or just use the shades alone.
