One of the funnier things to come out of Donald Trump’s presidency is the way the businessman-turned reality TV star-turned politician has been portrayed in American comedy show Saturday Night Live. The ongoing parody, featuring Alec Baldwin playing a satirical version of Trump, has become famous all over the world for it’s attention-grabbing skits based on recent political events, specifically those involving the US President. And while most of the scenes have almost no relevance to the beauty world, the most recent installment on the show has caught our attention.

It features actress Scarlett Johansson, who plays the first daughter, Ivanka Trump, in a spoof advertisement for the release of an Ivanka-branded fragrance, ‘Complicit’, which comments on her role in her father’s controversial presidency.

The sketch follows Ivanka as she walks around a party, in a show-stopping gold dress, drawing gazes from everyone in the room. The voice over of the video explains how a woman like her needs a scent that’s all her own, because “she’s beautiful, she’s powerful, she’s complicit. She’s a woman who knows what she wants and knows what she’s doing… Complicit. She doesn’t crave the spotlight, but we see her.”

The skit then shows Johansson as Ivanka looking in a full-length mirror, applying lipstick, with the reflection mirrored back to her as Donald Trump.

The voice over continues, “a feminist, an advocate, a champion for women…like how?” before crossing to other members at the party, including a group of women who direct confused and directed gazes at Ivanka.

“Complicit. The fragrance for the woman who could stop all of this but won’t.”

While we tend not to dabble in the political arena, the hilarious video is a must-watch. See a snippet of it below.
