Everything you need to know about Selena Gomez's 'Rare Beauty'

Including when it drops in Australia

Beauty Crew / June 03 2021

When superstar singer/actress/source of makeup inspo Selena Gomez announced the launch of her beauty brand Rare Beauty back in February 2020, we were beyond excited.

Since then, the 28-year-old has not only dropped an extensive array of makeup products but she's also created the Rare Impact Fund, cementing the brand's intentions of improving mental health.

Yep, she's done some big stuff. So, if you're keen to find out more (including how you can get your hands on it), here's everything you need to know about the range...

What's in the Rare Beauty range?

Firstly, there’s nothing priced over $30 USD (that’s about $40 Australian dollary-doos just in case you were wondering)!

Secondly, the product offering is huge. Base is sorted with the Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation and Brightening Concealer – ready to apply with the brand’s Foundation Brush or Multi-Tasking Makeup Sponge and Concealer Brush, of course.

There’s also an Always An Optimist Illuminating Primer,  4-in-1 Prime & Set Mist and the Blot & Glow Touch Up Kit for those who like a complexion that doesn’t crack (and yes, before you ask, there are blotting refills and powder puffs available for purchase too).

Moving through to colour and detail, there’s a Soft Pinch Liquid Blush and Positive Light Liquid Luminizer for next-level dewy cheeks. For brows and lids, the Brow Harmony Pencil & Gel and Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner are here to define. The affordable range also offers a creamy lip balm and matte cream lipstick in a range of shades. Delish.

What does 'Rare Beauty' mean?

Gomez has been vocal about the meaning behind the name ‘Rare’, explaining how she wants people to know and learn that there is 'so much beauty in imperfection'.

From the outset, Gomez has said, “I wanted to make a brand where you feel comfortable. I think people feel the pressure – I know I do – where you feel like you need to look like everyone else or should get this because that’s what everyone else gets."

“Sometimes that can feel a bit isolating or you might feel like ‘I can’t achieve that look.’ I’m very lucky to have worked with some of the greatest makeup artists in the world and being able to create my own and make it exactly what I want."

“I want it to be something you guys love. It’s not just going to be a brand, it’s going to be a lifestyle.”

Will Rare Beauty be launching skin care?

"[I]don’t know [if Rare Beauty will have skin care products]," Gomez shared via a recent Instagram Live. "Here’s the reason why: I respect very very much on how people individually have their own skin care product routine so I would never be someone that can tell you I know everything about skin and what’s right for you."

"It's very very different for each person so I’m just going say that. I don’t know if Rare will do that; [creating skin care that works for] everybody else [is] hard. That’s actually harder than makeup."

Where to buy Rare Beauty in Australia

Rare fans, rejoice: the wait is finally over. “WE'RE GOING GLOBAL Y'ALL!!!!”, the brand recently shared via an Instagram post. “It’s finally happening this summer, and we're thankful to all our international community members for being so patient with us.” We must say, staying patient hasn't been easy.

As for the where of it all, that’s confirmed too: Sephora will be the sole Aussie stockist, so you'll have tons of options, regardless of whether you prefer to swatch in-store or shop online. Now all that's left to do is save your pennies and count the days until August 5th when the range finally drops down under.
