Have you ever been graced with a monstrous pimple just before you have to go to an event? It’s the absolute pits. If you’re anything like us then you feel like burying your breakouts in a truckload of concealer, or just not showing up at all. Well, Amanda Seyfried has just proved that the show must go on – even if you have something way worse than a pimple. Just recently, Amanda found herself with an eye infection right before a paparazzi-packed red carpet appearance.

‘Why on earth would she still attend?’ we hear you say. Well, the girl has been blessed with a damn fine makeup artist who can literally make magic happen. Oh, and she was THE guest of honour.

The actress recently posted an Instagram snap before the red carpet premiere of Mamma Mia 2, showing off makeup artist Mary Greenwell’s impressive handiwork. “Eye infection vs. @marygreenwell’s makeup design,” she captioned the post. “Here we come Stockholm fans – Mamma Mia is in Abba Country!”

While the first thing most people would think of doing is breaking out the concealer and covering up the discolouration caused by the infection below the eyes, Greenwell cleverly created a makeup look that would actually complement Amanda’s last-minute situation.

Using a pinky-burgundy coloured eyeshadow, Greenwell gave the star a striking smoky under-eye, blending out a shimmery deep navy colour on the upper lid. This genius combination of hues worked to perfectly camouflage the star’s puffy, red eye - and as expected, Amanda pulled the whole look off seamlessly.

Greenwell also took to Instagram to share the stunning makeup look, praising Amanda for making the best of an unfortunate pre-red carpet situation. “I just want to say how wonderful Amanda is,” she wrote. “While most people would hide from the camera, here she is looking as beautiful as ever with make up purposefully created to work WITH Amanda’s eye infection. I love this so much.”

So do we!

Eye infection or not, we think this look is seriously striking, and a colourful two-toned smoky eye is the perfect way to shake up your regular makeup look on your next night out.

The good news is that you can actually copy the whole entire look for yourself, because Greenwell did us all a solid and dished out the exact products she used to create the stunning makeup look.

She started by priming Amanda’s skin using Sisley Paris Hydra-Global Serum and Sisley Botanical Eye and Lip Contour Balm, before reaching for CHANEL Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturiser for coverage. She then used a mix of two different concealers (interesting!) - Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer and Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge Concealer

For the all-important smoky eye makeup, Greenwell used the sultry Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Palette, which serves up a drool-worthy selection of matte and shimmery shades. Greenwell opted for a slick of Sensai Beauty 38C Black Mascara and a Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil to complete the look.

She also applied a swipe of Guerlain bronzer on Amanda’s cheeks before finishing the look with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Liner in Pillow Talk and Sisley Phyto Lip Twist No.1.
